V8 Disco Starter problems

Hey Guys.....greetings from the UK.
I'm currently on holiday here, and I can't beleive how many Landrovers I've seen since I've been here....this definitly is Landrover heaven.
So many Defenders 90's...no wonder we don't have many in Oz....they don't let any out of the country. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Anyways, the problem I'm having with my Disco (95 3.9 V8) is the starter has stopped working. When I turn the key I get nothing, not even a click.

I've checked the battery, and it's fine...plenty of charge.
I've checked the line from the ignition to the starter...and I get a signal when I turn the key.
I have the full 12 volts from the battery at the positive terminal on the starter.
BUT I seem to have 12 volts across the solenoid terminals no matter what position the ignition is in.

So from this it looks like the soleniod is stuffed.

Questions:
Can the solenoid be fixed.??
Is there anyway you can you start the car by bypassing it.??
Does anyone know of a good place in Brisbane to get it fixed, exchanged or replaced.??

Any useful info that will help me get kick my disco back into action would be greatly appreciated.

I'll be back in Oz on Monday, and hope to fix it then before I go back to work on Tuesday.

<span style="color:#3366FF">give the starter a few taps with a hammer or similar while someone else turns the key.....
this may get you up and running again.....

from memory there is a copper plate in the end of the solenoid that carbons up and may just need to be
cleaned or just flipped over to get it working again......




as for the power side of things.......yes there should always be power there as the positive lead from the
battery runs straight to the starter motor.......</span>

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ i think from what you describe you will need to take the starter off.
if you have been through deep water you can expect the starter to give up
the water gets into the motor and the corrosion starts up behind the permanent magnets and puffs them out to sieze the comm.
you will need an allen key socket to undo the two bolts and from my experience they are very tight

I&#39;ve got the starter motor off now, but I&#39;m still not sure what is wrong with it.

Does anyone know how I can test it to find out what exactly is wrong with it.
I&#39;d like to be able to test it outside the car as it&#39;s a pain to keep refitting all the time.

Or am I best off just taking the whole thing to an auto electrician and getting them to look at it.???

I got the solenoid on my starter replaced some years ago by an auto electrician.

1997 build 300tdi.
I was trying to chase my intermittent starting problem, but it didn&#39;t fix it. (Not auto elecs fault)

It was &#036;180 - they fitted a new solenoid (Bosch) and bench tested the complete starter motor...
