I have the spare on a rear bar and was tossing up the idea of insialling a water tank in the space under. Anyone done this and/or is there a certain tank to use. Using a aux fuel tank is too expensive.

You could easily have something made.
I would ask what your intended use for it would be?
I will never drink from a tank on a vehicle.

We have a Joolca shower and am thinking that when swagging it, a hot shower would be nice for my nav. Also, as a cleanup when fishing. I have a tank under my ute tray and have used it for making a cuppa for years, with no ill effects. Can't see anyone urinating it, the way the filler is set up. John Holmes may have had a chance, I suppose.

I’m not worried about tampering, just don’t drink it by choice.
A Simple frame to hold a poly tank that can fit between the rails would suit your needs.

I think there is a Front Runner tank designed to fit on the passenger side. The Expedition Centre or APT may stock them.
Boab also have a range of poly water tanks. Not sure if they are what you want.

I think the idea is good but for the cost you could just a plastic jerry or poly tank that sits behind the rear seats ( wedge shaped ).

Not on a Disco Mick. There’s exhaust there.

Yes, that's true. There are a range of tanks available in various shapes.
I've gone off fitting extra water tanks into a vehicle because of the extra cost, compared with just carrying drums.
I scored six free 20 litre cube-shaped drums used to supply purified water to laboratories. I just park them on the floor in the vehicle as needed. Being cubes, they are less likely to roll over than tall drums.

I was looking at the diesel version of this 50l water tank for the cargo area behind the seats. Fits nicely and I like that I can pull it out when not in use...
Poly Water 50Lt Taper - AECAA Pty Ltd T/A Automotive Electrical & 4WD Acce (http://www.dolium.com.au/retail_catalogue/WTP50T_item.html'ref_cat_id=Water_Tanks___Accessor ies)
Hadn't quite worked out the fixing of it but thought a combination of a strap from the child seat anchors in the back of the seats and maybe a strap down the gap between the (folded 3rd row) seats to hold it down to the seat or seat belt frame... I used a similar method for my fridge slide.
Just food for thought

I transfer this 85L water bladder between vehicles as required. It sits just nice in the rear passenger footwells. They make a bunch of other sizes and shapes too.

I'm not too fussed on having 20 litres, let alone 40, 50, or 80 litres of water sitting internally just waiting for Murphy to show up. I also have the issue of drawers in the rear.
Ae we fish a bit, I also want something I can access without touching too much.
Pernickety? Maybe.

I have the 85L bladder to.
Sits in third row footwell.
Works a treat, and happy to drink from it.

Instead of “I have a xxxxxxx” perhaps we can help him with solutions. [emoji6]
I think a simple fabricated frame and a suitably sized Caravan tank should see you sorted.
Not sure how you’ll go if not baffled so seek a baffled design. I think you could even get a couple of Jerry Cans under there if you wished..

What about a frame designed around the spare wheel winch? Space in the middle would require tanks (or jerrys) to be either side or custom fabricated donut shape. Probably too complicated compared to just bolting to chassis. I’ve never come across water storage in that space.
Cheers,
Scott

I had the same idea with the spare wheel area being vacant after I installed my rear bar and wheel carrier and this is what I designed.
I got a 50lt polytank made up to fit the area under the car where the spare wheel was. Got it made up by a fellow in Queensland who also made a water tank for my earlier RR Classic. cost approx $330 delivered to Sydney.
I also got a locally made aluminium bash plate / cradle which uses the existing wheel locking chain plus made mounts to bolt to the chassis. approx $180. I run the filling / breather and outlet via electric pump into the back of the car via the wheel arc, where I mounted to the side of my drop down fridge slide. works really well, please see photos attached.

That is a cracker of a set up! Is 50 litre the max you would recommend in the space? Thanks a lot for the pics.

I'd hazard a guess that it was the same manufacturer of the tank mention by Disco136, i wonder if they can do a poly fuel tank for the same price ?

Yes it was Abbertanks tanks who made it for me and that is my tank he made for me.
The dimensions in the picture are what I sent. I did ask to add some baffles inside as well.
I decided to keep it high hence only the 50lt - 60lt capacity, could go lower only to increase the volume of water.

Its a good size without compromising ground clearance, perfect size for a fuel tank as well - i don't need an extra 100ltrs but 50-60 would be good.
