As part of my endeavour to improve my D2a, I’D like to replace the rear window, as only the lower third gets cleaned with the window wiper. How hard is it to change?

cheers
Julian

???, is it damaged ? you can make the wiper clean the top 2/3rds .

The window is convex, bent.

I think it’s covered in the workshop manual, but I might be mistaken

Would you like to borrow a rubber mallet? [wink11]
Ensure the replacement is flat, my back window is impossible to clean with the wiper, too. Another LR of idiosyncrasies? [bighmmm]

Should be convex.

Did you replace the wiper rubber?
Did you replace the entire blade?

Both mine are the standard convex shape and wipers work fine(same with the D1)

In fact, I think I've read that the D1 and D2 still share the same rear window, and maybe door(shape), but that the locks are different.
Haven't checked the locks.

I reckon, if you changed the wiper rubber, either you got one that just doesn't work very well, probably too stiff plastic backing on it.
If you did get a good quality rubber blade with metal backing, then maybe the metal blade holder is either bent a little, or could be squashed in at the joints and not flexing enough.

My rear wiper was only contacting at the perimeter of the arc. I replaced the wiper with a new, complete unit which replicated the wiping pattern, leading me to believe the issue is with the glass.

Try a Discovery 3 rear blade.
Bit of naffing about to make it fit but it wipes the rear window properly.

I halve replaced both the arm and the blade. The blade came from super cheap autobarn. Might try a new blade. A proper one.

By "blade" you mean just the rubber, or the rubber plus the metal holding part?

I don't like plastic backed rubber wipers, and only use the rubbers that use the metal strips .. far more flexible.

Just a habit I picked up from my old Rover P6 owning days, as they had quite a severely curved front screen.
The plastic backed rubbers just never flexed enough at the curves and you lost close to 1/4 of the screens surface in the rain.

If you go back to SCA, have a look at the flexblade range. Massive curve on the blade, which straightens out when on the glass, but still flexes to follow curves.
Work really well, brother in law has them on his MB140.

I always replace mine with genuine (not from a dealer but from one of the many good alternates e.g. Karcraft, Rovercraft BMI etc.)

When I bought my D2a it didn't have a rear wiper fitted so I fitted a new Genuine wiper arm and blade I got from Whyatts in Geraldton, 4 years later the rear wiper is still working perfectly despite all the mud and crap it has had to scrape off the rear screen[thumbsupbig]

I have replaced the, I think genuine rear blade with a genuine rear blade. No difference. Looking at the whole rear wiper assembly, it sort of looks as if the mounting point of the arm is too close to the door. Maybe if I I can move the arm out a few mm it might go better.

Sounds like a weird issue, but if you can post a couple of photos of the arm and try to capture the angle it sits at.
I have easy access to my part D2 and I can show you the possible difference of the bend in the arm.

The blade(metal part of) should have enough flexibility in it to follow the contour of the window.
Can't imagine your window having bowed (basically at all!) .. enough to have caused the blade and insert to not flex enough.
Window would be popping out of it's seal

Here are two photos, shwing the gap and addly the arm rubbing in the window seal. So maybe the arm is buggered. Would hesating it up and bending it do any good? Or do I just get a new arm?

Cheers

That arm doesn't look right to me for some reason. I'll check mine later and see.

Looks like I need A new arm. Genuine $43 non genuine $40.

Or maybe the mount on the door is the problem.

I think I’d just get a new arm and wiper to be honest.

For the first time since I bought the car, the reqr window wiper works properly. 154204

I was told, many years ago, that the rear wndow was deformed, and that is why the wiper does not work properly. Interestingly enouhg, I had broken the wiper arm and replaced it, still no good. This is the third wiper arm I have had on the car, and yes it is a genuine part.

Nothing wrong with the arm, it's simply avoiding the Crows stickers, which seems reasonable enough to me[bigwhistle]
