I was just reading the posts about the Boonah trip.
As I was born and raised in s**t-switch (read: Ipswich), this topic had me wondering if anyone on these forums have ever been to a property named "Brooklyn" in northern NSW near the towns of Burbonville (read: Urbenville, I call it Burbonville because of someones desire to spray paint a "B" in front of the towns name on a road sign just out of town) and a town by the name of Woodenbong. Woodenbong... what an apt name.... considering a few years back you could buy your beer and wacky-weed from the local pub.
Brooklyn, ran by Terry Pascoe, has full amenities camping areas, secluded camp sites, a hut that sleeps over 20 people, and a few caravans on site, and several 1000 square kilometers of bush tracks for every skill level, and also backs onto state forest full of fire trails. Although I have not been camping/4wd'n/bike riding there from a few years now, the park is still running, and I still stop in to see Terry when ever I am visiting the oldies in Ipswich. It's only a 2 1/2 hour drive from Ipswich via Boonah - White Swamp Road, about 3 hours if you go via Warwick - Legume, and I think it's only about 2 hours from the Gold Coast via Beaudesert.
Living in Townsville FNQ now, makes it a bit hard to get to Brooklyn regularly, but for all of you in southern QLD and northern NSW, I can not recommend "Brooklyn" highly enough for a weekend of off-roading and camping. Just play by the rules and you will never have any trouble with Terry, as he likes to run the place as safely as possible, and troublemakers are shown the front gate from the outside, never to see what the gate looks like from the inside ever again.
If anyone does decide to go and checkout "Brooklyn" be sure and ask Terry about the idiot doing jumps on his XR200 about 15 years ago with no front brakes and ended up in the creek, neck deep (would have been over my head, if I wasn't standing on top of my bike). Terry being the ever helpful, towed the bike out of the creek, but not before a 20 minute round trip to get his camera. Of which he still has the photos in the camp photo album.
I was just lucky a few years later, after a KX250 landed from a jump, straight on top of me, Terry wanted to get some photos but thought he better get a doctor first. Hmmm, ever seen what your kneecap looks like lying in the dirt?
Anyways "Brooklyn" is great place to visit and like I said, I can not recommend it highly enough.
Terry can be contacted on (02) 6634 6176 for any infomation and tell him Brett sent ya!
