Read Wbarka69’s post in Prospeed Light Bracket and Stedi Lights (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/257011-prospeed-light-bracket-stedi-lights.html) regarding converting the factory fog lights to a LED combination DRL/Fog light such as LAND ROVER DISCOVERY LR4 HIGH POWER FULL LED DRL FOG LIGHTS 2009-2016 | eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LAND-ROVER-DISCOVERY-LR4-HIGH-POWER-FULL-LED-DRL-FOG-LIGHTS-2009-2016/222706914740?hash=item33da5dd5b4:g:a3UAAOSw-xVZ~ph8:rk:1:pf:0)

How does one wire up the new DRL part of the LED combination light to trigger the DRL on at the correct times? Is it voltage sensitive and only turns on when voltage is high enough due to the engine/alternator running?

EDIT:
The answer was in the pictures which weren’t loading on my mobile.

I thought the Stedi LED fog lights are true plug and play, their wiring plugs directly into the original plugs, and they work off the original fog light switch. You can (but i havent) splice into the drl wiring for the bull bar drl's, or the headlight drl. The fused wire solution above would also work but means another wire running to the fuse box. Ive now got (apart from std bixenon main headlight) led drl in the headlight (as std, not the signature lights though), led fog lights and led turn/drl combo both mounted in the bull bar, all running off the std switches. Single row Led light bar is wired into lh headlight for power and switched in the cabin. Next is the h7 infill light upgrade to Stedi h7 led units, also a direct drop in replacement.

I have a funny feeling the DRLs come on when you put it in gear. It's hard to test the theory if you're by yourself though!

Park near a wall, foot on brake, place in gear [emoji41]

And no, it not gear based...

An easier wiring point is just behind the grill.
The empty plug is for the Smog sensor and is ignition switched.

You can use this to run the DRLs.

Looks like a great set up. Would like to hear post install thoughts and some pics. I think your original question is still valid, the diagram shows the plug connection which would turn the fog lights on/off from the switch on the dash. The additional wire running back to the fuse box with the piggyback fuse holder will power up the DRL, (I am guessing) but what switches the DRL off when main lights are turned on. A NC relay could be used with input from piggyback fuse in the headlight or parking light circuit. Suggestion above about using the smog sensor would make it easier.

I run a different version (Osram) but keep my DRLs on using the dim function that my unit has.
A simple move of a wire changes this to lights on=DRL off.

My DRL's run under my headlights and up behind the orange reflectors on the side of the headlight assembly.

When the indicators or hazard lights are turned on, the DRL/s extinguish and the LED strip becomes a cascading indicator light.

And then I've fitted a pair of cascading side indicator repeaters to match the lights on the front - just for something different.

Thanks for that. Particularly Tombie for the easy to access ignition power source.

I want to add the DRL's to the wife MY12 D4 as it's a dark coloured vehicle and the headlights just get left on the 'Auto' mode for ease.
For those that have done this already, wondering what you used?

Sadly Stedi are no longer restocking their Osram units < STEDI OSRAM Universal LED Fog Light Kit (https://www.stedi.com.au/universal-osram-led-fog-light-conversion-kit-with-drl.html) > and offer LED fog light only units now.

There's a few options on eBay:

LAND ROVER DISCOVERY LR4 HIGH POWER FULL LED DRL FOG LIGHTS 2009-2016 | eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LAND-ROVER-DISCOVERY-LR4-HIGH-POWER-FULL-LED-DRL-FOG-LIGHTS-2009-2016/222706914740?hash=item33da5dd5b4:g:a3UAAOSw-xVZ~ph8:rk:1:pf:0)
$209.99

and powerful_uk_ltd have three variants:
FOG-923TP E-Marked < LED Front 2in1 Fog+DRL Lamp light for LandRover Discovery 4 LR4 day running spot | eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LED-Front-2in1-Fog-DRL-Lamp-light-for-LandRover-Discovery-4-LR4-day-running-spot/401717724612) > at around $240.00
FOG923RNG < LED Front Fog+DRL Lamp bumper light for LandRover Discovery 4 angel eye spot L R | eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LED-Front-Fog-DRL-Lamp-bumper-light-for-LandRover-Discovery-4-angel-eye-spot-L-R/401726397524) > at around $230.00
FOG923MKR < LED Front Fog+DRL bumper Lamp light for LandRover Discovery 4 day time running | eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LED-Front-Fog-DRL-bumper-Lamp-light-for-LandRover-Discovery-4-day-time-running/382832676284?fits=Model%3ADiscovery&hash=item59229b0dbc:g:sN0AAOSwBRdchXNf) > at around $170.00 but note that it says that the DRL lights or so dim that they're really just for cosmetic purposes.

Any other options anyone is aware of?

At present the first two powerful_uk_ltd look to have the better build quality.

No great loss - I've got those on my D3 - the DRL is nothing flash and the fog light is pathetic IMHO.

Ivr got the Stedi universal fog lights on the D4, no DRL. I reckon theyre great and way better than the factory 55w'ers. Each to their own i guess. Never had an issue with Stedi, good gear IMHO, ive got their lights on my m'bike too.

That’s great but as per the thread title and posts I’m looking for a DRL combination setup. Regardless of whether Stedi are good or bad is irrelevant as they no longer offer such a product.

Well, that looks excellent. Care to share where the parts come from and how you put it all together. The whole effect certainly interests me.

Yes, I have looked at lights in the links you posted, in that second group of 3 links, the "E-marked" ones are the only ones that have adjustment. I am looking at this as well and I think vertical adjustment would be good, mine will be going into an OL bar, so something to consider.

powerful_uk_ltd have four offerings of DRL and Fog combinations:

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/fYgAAOSwf4BchWJ1/s-l1600.jpg
s-l1600.jpg (https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/fYgAAOSwf4BchWJ1/s-l1600.jpg)

FOG-923MKR in the bottom right corner are the ones to avoid as "The DRL marker function on these lamps are low-intensity LEDs (0.5w) and more for cosmetic purposes".

I asked them if they particularly favour or recommend any one of the other three over the others based on build quality and performance, and this was their response:

To be honest, all of these items have a similar quality level - we haven't had reports of difficulties with any of the types we sell.

I would say the most popular option is our part number FOG923-WIN if that helps at all. Please see below:

fog923-win | eBay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=fog923-win&_sacat=0)

These are listed for a few models but will fit the LR4.

Kind Regards

Rachel

Of note is FOG923-WIN is also E Marked and has an alignment adjustment screw. Pricing is the same as the other E Marked model at around AUD $230.00 delivered.

But the biggest advantage I can see with the FOG923-WIN model is that it has the built in DRL controller which the others don't:

The DRL function needs 2 wires connecting into your electrical system: A positive ignition feed and a positive feed from your headlight wiring (to switch DRL off when headlights are turned on).
Scotch lock wiring connectors are supplied for simple installation - see photos for wiring diagram.

DRL-fog-light-universal-LED-gallery-wiring-diagram.jpg (https://images.esellerpro.com/2133/I/131/21/DRL-fog-light-universal-LED-gallery-wiring-diagram.jpg)

With the E Mark and built in DRL controller I'd suggest that these would be one of the best options to replace the factory standard fog lights.

I did check the online table for model suitability and it indicates not suitable, but if the person you were talking to says they fit then I agree, the DRL controller is the clincher, no relays to mount. I must say I prefer the look of the FOG923-RNG, and from the shear volume of LED's think they might be higher vis, which is what this is all about, maybe a quick question to Rachel, but I think this will do me.

One of my mates recently fitted a DRL / foglight kit to his Range Rover Sport, not sure where he bought the kit but they put out so much noise when they are on it can be heard through his CB radio and it disrupts the DAB radio reception as well.

I'll have to ask him which ones he bought next time I see him...

They come with double sided adhesive tape already installed on both sides of the LED strips Scott. I was skeptical at first, but it actually works very well - I have had these on for a while now and there has been no sign of lifting. When I installed them, I pulled the headlights out and cleaned them with alcohol, and then stuck the LED strips on before re-installing the headlights. I also removed the double sided adhesive tape from the side of the LED strips that was not going to be stuck to anything.

That’d be appreciated as they sound like ones to avoid.

Well the update is that my memory is not as good as I wish it was. The lights are different to the ones fitted to my OL roo-bar and they don't fit, and while I could make them fit I am looking at another solution and will start a new thread or resurrect an old one that's a bit more on topic shortly. YarnMaster I have PM'd you.
