View Full Version : TDV6 "Limp Mode" when parked on a hill?

My father-in-law is looking after the D3 while we are overseas. He has a very steep driveway, and parks the D3 at the bottom of his drive facing up hill. If he leaves the car for 4-5 days it appears to go into a limp mode, and is extremely difficult / slow to get up to the top of the drive.

Could this simply be the oil settling at the back of the motor / gearbox causing this issue?

Once at the top of the drive, he lets idle for a further 5min and it runs perfectly normally.

Any thoughts / advice would be greatly appreciated.

May I suggest. Try facing downhill. If thats feasible. Or select low range to get up the drive.

Or just wait a minute after start up.

As Tombie says - I have a small slope and if you start and just take off the engine is down on power a little - not limp mode just cold and has not cleared the unburnt fuel left after start - start and let it run a bit only less than 30 secs or so (the time it takes for me to put seat belt on and put into Drive and release the handbrake).

Father in law told me that he lets it warm up for a minute or so before pulling off. He is now parking on the street as he doesn't want to risk either damaging our D3, or trapping his car in the garage!
