Has any one managed to replace the mesh on the pick up tube in the fuel tank? Is it even worth trying to replace?

Have thought about it, but not actually done anything about it. If you are using clean fuel, and the tank is not rusty, there should be no need for it. It would be a fairly simple soldering job - I have some suitable bronze gauze.

Someone in the UK was making them.

Like John I'm not sure it's worthwhile trying to replace as long as the tank has been cleaned. You could add an in-line filter before the carby instead.

The gauze filter on the pump should catch anything the one in the tank would. I have an inline filter between the pump and the carbie - an edge filter, not a paper one, after I realised that the repeated idling jet blockages were from the paper filter breaking up!

I've done it. I bought a fuel pick-up gauze off e-bay from the UK. and soldered it on. Easy job. They are available for S1s and S2s. Not only do they keep the dirt out, but let through fuel but not water. Well worth the money.

I replaced mine with the ebay ones, worked a treat ! Just need a blow torch, and maybe a stick of plumbers solder.

Cheers,
John

You don't really need a blow torch, you can solder it on the gas or electric stove. Some people may have to choose the moment carefully.
