I have tracked down a replacement for burnt out steering lock motors in the L322 Range rover.
The link is as follows. http://www.elvmotor.com/shopdvr/product/4/235696/LANDROVER_range_rover_ESL_ELV_Steering_Lock_Motor. html

Excellent. The price is right - we need 10 orders, though. :)

That's cheaper than the bypass module that we've been using.

Is it really the motor that fails though? I was under the impression it was an electronic problem within the steering lock module, not the motor.

I disabled mine's steering lock by changing the CCF status to not-installed.

That's fine for the later models, but the earlier ones don't have a CCF...

I believe that it could be one of two things the steering lock motor or the switch next to it both now can be replaced. Its not usually the circuit board. If you can't hear the lock going in and out when you put the key in then I believe that's the lock motor.

Might just get them and see who interested. They also have the replacement door lock motors for the discos as well complete so you don't have the cut them and glue bits on which I have done over the years so might even get some of them as well.

If the price is right, I'd take one. When one has a spare, one never needs it. [biggrin]

So today I had a 2007MY L322, faulty steering column lock, pull fuse 18 & you can turn the key after a few attempts...

Disabled the Steering Column Lock in the CCF, made no difference. Can still hear the little thunk a moment or two after removing the key, and then it won't turn again until fuse #18 has been taken out.

So it seems disabling in the CCF only works in the 2010-2012 models. Which kind of makes sense since the people selling the emulators say they are for 2002-2009 models, not for 2010-2012...

Isnt this related to the magnet thats in there:

New for Range Rover™ L322 Steering Column Lock Kuhnke™ Solenoid Magnet FreeShip | eBay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-for-Range-Rover-L322-Steering-Column-Lock-Kuhnke-Solenoid-Magnet-FreeShip-/232927805470)

Unsealed 4X4 | This 30-cent magnet saved me thousands of dollars in repair costs (https://www.unsealed4x4.com.au/30-cent-magnet-saved-thousands-dollars-repair-costs/)

Pretty sure there is a video on the youtube as well which shows the process.

Mine was the safety lock plunger that failed (small magnet) - I did the interior light "fix". The key needs a 12v signal back from the steering column ECU to indicate all good and it can release the key lock. Jump the interior light onto this signal wire and the key is able turn from the lock position when the interior lights are on. Steering column lock motor is unplugged obviously in the unlocked position with the broken safety lock pin in place locking the motor in the unlocked position.

Fixed mine a couple of months back 2003 l322, found my worm drive motor had dirty brushes. Fed it 12 volts sounded crap sprayed contact cleaner on brushes and comm. Wow ,smooth as. Hasn't missed yet. Bit fiddly though trying to get the pins out that secure the cover. Ended up tapping a 4mm thread and used screws to reassemble.
