On our recent trip to Fraser we stopped at Ngkala Rocks bypass to have a look at it. As we're walking along we see this car that looks like it's in the surf. Clambered up to look at it and it was a Hilix ute with the waves lapping around it's middrift https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

The owner was nearby watching it. Apparently he was heading up north at 8pm the previous night, and running late. He decided not to use the bypass (was a bit rough). He let his GF drive, while he directed. Unfortunately they put a wheel wrong and got stuck. No one came along to pull him out (no suprise at that time of night).

So, the car had been under two tides when we saw it. It was only 3 months old, but was apparently covered by insurance. When at the waddy point shop the guy was about to head off to retrieve it. The owner of the car seemed suprisingly cool about it all.

Looks surprisingly good for a car that's been in a couple of tides!

When one of the local kids drowned dad's brand new wrangler, while dad was away in Perth. By the next day it was smashed up by the waves and completely beyond recall.

Are you referring to the surf or the hilux? https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

I was up there about 2 months ago and it was totally impassable even at the lowest tide. Looks pretty similar in those photos. All the rocks were exposed even below the low tide mark. A mate has just bought a new Hilux same colour and tray in dual cab I think I'll send hom the photo's and show him what they're capable of.

It only slightly dinged up. The photos don't show the windscreen knocked out.. not sure how that happened. It was amazingly calm up there that night which I'm sure helped. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

When I went up there we couldnt even be sure which were the north and which the South Ngkala rocks. There was plenty of sand and we were able to pass all rocky sections.

And he was suprisingly cool about it coz after all "It's only a Toyota".

Insurance, should pay up. I personally know 3 people that have lost cars in the rainbow beach area. One had to fight but won. Most of these beaches are gazetted as public access roads so general insurance should cover. The guys I new did have insurance for all offroad as well though. One of them I know went to the local RACQ operator to get his car pulled before the tide came in. The $#$%% would not take his 4x4 truck with a 100m winch cable and retrieve it. But did so gladly the next day when it was written off. Some conflict there. My friend sat on the beach with a carton that night and watched the tide roll his Nissan one way and then the other. He made sure the RACQ recovery operator did not retain the wreck. I got a heap of MK Patrol parts for my Patrol at the time for nothing.

That's interesting... you reckon the recovery guy likes them to be submerged so he gets to keep the reck and make some $$$ ??
