Long line fishing blamed for reduction in stocks.

Australian anglers will be banned from fishing for snapper for THREE YEARS - with heavy fines dished out for those who break the law (https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/australia/australian-anglers-will-be-banned-from-fishing-for-snapper-for-three-years-with-heavy-fines-dished-out-for-those-who-break-the-law/ar-AAHYaBl?ocid=spartandhp)

Good....

Our Gulf has been raped and pillaged to a ridiculous level.

As a boat owner and recreational fisher it drives me mad watching boats come in with full bag limits day after day.
There is no need to have that many fish - most get frozen and in a few months are ruined.

I completely Agree.[thumbsupbig]
5x fish over 38cm and 2x fish over 60cm per person in SA is bloody ridicules.
I too get sick and tired of the rape and pillage brigade and that includes the pro fishermen who know bloody well that the stocks are down and yet continue to plunder what little is left.
We had a snapper ban in Sharks bay for a few years which gave the fish time to recover to a reasonable level and with the strict bag limits and annual spawning closures now in place the fishery is now quite healthy once again and more importantly Sustainable.

I fish on a regular basis and even though there is only a 2 fish only bag limit for demersal's in the West Coast Bioregion I seldom bring more than the one fish home and release everything else, Sometimes I release everything because even though I Love eating fish filleting them is NOT my favorite pastime.
