So after towing a sub 750kg camper I’ve got serious. Picked this up this morning. About 3t including the trailer. So 40kms each way. Mostly highway. 9.8l/100kms there and 16.5 back. Not as bad as I thought. Yes, most probably need to add a couple of litres to each to get a real world calculation and not a LR. one.

Towed nicely. Stopped well, especially seeing the brake controller didn’t detect the trailer. Off to the auto-electrician.

Torque converter replaced. Transmission serviced and heavy duty transmission cooler installed.

Now I just need to get it wet.

The trailer manufacturer recommends 10 to 12% towball weight for galvanised trailers and 7% for aluminium.

Boats and fishing lifestyles are far more expensive and harder to quit than just about ANY drug [biggrin]

Nice Grady Sean!
Bugger the tow test - drag it with an old Massey for all Incare!
When is the splash?
Is that the 225 yammie?

Not wanting to be too much of one of those people - not knowing how many big boats you’ve towed.
BUT
Even if you only tow short distances (40km) I would install a heavy chain from the trailer yoke, to the base of the winch post and up to the tow eye with turnbuckle

If you had to really hit the skids in the disco (or worse came to a sudden halt) the last thing you want is 2T of Grady kissing you in the back of the head.
That Ally trailer to winch post connection will fold and offer little none forward protection.

Enjoy your time on the water!

Steve

SteveHi Steve it’s a 250. Before I get it wet I have to get the brake controller sorted. When the power was re-connected they didn’t get it right. With the key removed if I put my foot on the brake and manually activate the brake controller it turns on all the accessories. Back to the auto electrician on Tuesday.

Yes, always had a chain and turnbuckle on the bow of my previous boats. So will be getting one fo this boat as well
