Regen braking

If I was to tow a small 4x4 converted to ev behind a motor home would it be possible to set up the ev to regen brake when braking or slowing in the motor home. Thinking of having 200 to 300km range in the ev and being able to charge it whilst towing

It should be but as youd probably need to have the EV in a powered state I'm not sure how legal it would be.

Good thought for a non wearing brake though....

With a slightly different approach, DiscoMick’s suggestion could set up to charge the ev’s existing battery pack!

If a caravan/camper can be recharged while being towed then why couldn't an EV? My Defender is sending a steady 8 amps at the Anderson plug on the rear bumper down to the camper. Might take a while to recharge an EV I suppose.

I think Don has already done this with his EV lightweight being towed behind his Iveco. You could use the brake light circuit so it acted just like electric trailer brakes.

Not practical , the small 28kwh battery in mine is 256kg . in 4 boxes. would take some doing.

Correct, the brake light circuit in my EV Landy activates regen braking , you indeed could also connect it to the trailer brakes on the tug for proportional braking , or switch it off from there tug as well.

The problem with too much regen braking is the cells are fast charged direct & not through the BMS , so it would be possible to overcharge. Something you need to keep an eye on.

my word it is, its literally like towing something with the brakes jammed on , however you can tow it with regen turned right down & is like towing a heavy trailer.
The consumption on the Iveco went from 18L/100 k to 25L/100km so somebody pays the piper !! Cheaper to charge from solar :)
