Was in the last 30 minutes of my 3 hour drive home when there was a sudden thump and the revs went high like the car was in neutral. Pulled over. Can't move forwards. Reverse works perfectly fine though. Waiting for a lift home now and will get the car towed on Tuesday to avoid Sunday and public holidays fees.
I assume if it was as simple as low fluid the car wouldn't even work in reverse? Hopefully this isn't the end of the old girl.

edit - Some more information about it now that i am home. No extract lights came on when it happaned, and the display shows the correct gear selection as i move it from P down to 1.

Have you tried using 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear instead of just selecting Drive, It May get you home.

How many k's on the car? No noises when trying it through gears? I think it will be a trans out job but maybe it is in the A clutch pack there is a sparg clutch that can fail but if you put it in 1st and it still did not move then it rules that one out.

x2 for "A" clutch pack, possible the input shaft seals have let go , good rebuild kits will have teflon replacements
