Hello from Sherwood.

A quick question seeking a lead on whereabouts in Brisbane you might find a supplier of quality ball bearings? Thinking there of American, Japanese, European, English or, God forbid, Australian.

Recently breasted the counter of my local bearing service wanting loose ball bearings for a particular job. I had figured that the service kits that I had previously obtained included poorer quality pattern parts.

On asking the origin of the bearings the counter monkey suggested they were from “somewhere in Asia” but very unlikely to be Japan. Happened to mention this to a mechanic the other day who reckoned that a lot of the problem with the cheap Asian stuff is that once the manufacturing machines of reputable manufacturers are too worn to guarantee consistent tolerances they are sold off rather than destroyed. Hence, the cheapos are being made on machinery that guarantees a poor tolerance.

Whether that’s correct or not, I’m not so concerned about. Just want to get some quality bearings for the job at hand.

Cheers,

Neil

Are you after retailers, countries of origin or brands of quality bearings?

We use CBC,and only use Japanese bearings.

Because our gear runs all day, every day,24/7.

They have the cheap stuff,if thats what some want. Not us.

The branch we use has recently moved to Yatala, there is a guy there called Gary Spinks, don't know how to spell his surname, but he knows his stuff.Very helpful. Not much he doesn't know about bearings, belts, pullies,or any power transmission gear.

Hello again.

I’m pretty sure that was where I originally went to. Don’t have the two sizes with me at the moment.

Cheers,

Neil

I think you will find that most of the reputable bearing companies have their bearings manufactured in Asia, (Korea in particular) most suppliers will be able to give you a choice of quality if you ask for it. I use an independent supplier, who is very helpful and can sell you whatever quality you want. trevor@evolvebearings.com.au

Cheers,
Mick.
