The drought has seen some flying foxes starving, distressed and near the ground. Lyssavirus is similar to rabies, and reported only in Australia. It is a virus of the family Rhaboviridae , closely related to the rabies virus. It is found in 4 common species of flying fox -- black, greyheaded , little red and spectacled, as well as yellow bellied sheath tail bats. More info;
