My first installation video, for an L322, any suggestions please.

Hi folks, I am after some assistance.


I have just completed my first dual battery installation video, for an L322 Range rover kit.


I would really like any suggestions and/or criticism about the video.


I need to make two more as quick as possible so any help to improve them would be greatly appreciated.

Hi mate, overall I think it’s great - clear instructions, etc but if I was being super critical I would say the start of the video drags on a bit before the install. I would have made a seperate ‘features and benefits’ video for the unit that had most of this info - by the time someone needs the installation video, they’ve already bought the unit so this is redundant info.

A short video on just the features and benefits would also ensure more people watched the whole thing - most people have a short attention span for these things. Get in quick, point out the good bits, get out.

Without trying to make myself sound like a know all youtuber dick...(I do watch many youtubers) my immediate thought is that you say "DT90" to often....

It was established early in your video what was being installed, it doesn't need to be mentioned everytime you refer to it. Just say, "this kit", or "this product"...

I am not trying to sound like an ahole, but it erks me when people doing these diy vid clips constantly mention the brand/model. We know what's being installed, just show us how to do it.

I think your vid is awesome, and I'm not trying to sound like a *****, but apart from the constant mention, I think you've got all boxes ticked, just stop saying DT90.

I don't sell all that many of the L322 kits so it was a good one to stuff up on.

A very good point about repeatedly referring to the DT90. I didn't notice I had done that. I'll make sure that doesn't happen again. Thanks Mark.

Tim, I think you have done a great job on this one.

I'd add a warning when playing with the vehicle + feed that this is live, and take care with spanners etc to avoid shorting to earth. ...

Congratulations, I’ve always wanted a L322 and if I had one I would certainly do this mod. If critical I would say a still closeup at the end of some of the steps would be handy.

Apart from what has been said above, I thought the video was fantastic in showing how easy the install is to do. I would not hesitate to do the install watching this video, it has to be the easiest twin battery installation on the market
regardless of make.

The only other comment would be to say it fits all 3 versions of the L322 either Petrol & Diesel [biggrin]

While it was my first VIDEO, it was definitely not my first TAKE.


Luckily, rather than wait till I had a volunteer with a D4, as my Range Rover was sitting there doing nothing, I decided to make an experimental video on a DBS going it to it


I thought it would take a couple of hours to fit the kit and take the video needed, and then another few hours to edit it and post it up.


Boy did I get that wrong!


Some of the scenes were shot 5 or 6 times, before I got a usable clip.


First problem was I bought a head mount to use with my GoPro and that took some getting use to. I had to do a lot of experimenting with both the position of the GoPro and learning to position my head, so I could get the correct angle while shooting the video.


Anyway, the “few hours” of production took over four weeks, on and off and I need to take much less time with the next video.


This is why I have asked for any suggestions and criticisms.

Once you've got familiar with all your filming gear, and worked out what you require of said gear, then, with the aid of your newly created script/list, this should help streamline your video production.

Funny you should suggest this because I also consider it a bit of an unneeded waste of time.

I watched a number of iMovie “how to” videos and in a couple of them, they also suggested writing a script, but I still didn’t think it was really required.

That is until I tried to record the first bit of narration. I did it about 5 times and got it wrong each time.

I scripted everything voiceover in the clip but still needed to do many of them a number of times before getting what I needed.

I have already started the script for the next video.
