View Full Version : Gearbox guru?

Hello again from Sherwood.

Often said that I’m modestly mechanical but not a mechanic. In the case of gearboxes and such like this is definitely the case.

I’m searching for someone around Brisbane who could take a look at/inside the gearbox of my truck (1975 Series 3 2.25 petrol) and offer some informed advice on how good/bad it might be. The box is out of the truck and the top panel with the gear selectors has been removed. Going one step further - happy to consider getting someone to effect whatever repairs might be suggested to get the project moving forward a bit faster than it has been to date.

I’ve never driven the truck more that a couple of hundred metres since I’ve owned it. So, have no idea if it jumps out of gear, makes a racket or whatever. It literally drove off a truck into my yard and was moved a couple of times before going under the house where it now resides.

So, I appreciate that this is not the ideal way to test a box - but that’s the way it is.

Cheers,

Neil

Love to, but without a gearbox, steering or semblance of a drive train that would be more than a small challenge.

Cheers,

Neil

Its a series,

with no mechanical experience you need to learn the phrase "challenge accepted"

how else do you think landrover turned so many drivers into mechanics

Hello again.

Fair comment.

Unfortunately, I have too many opportunities for learning experiences on the plate at the moment to add gearbox perusing and exploratory dismantling to the list. Keen to accelerate progress without too many new diversions.

From what I can see it doesn’t look too bad - but still keen to get a second opinion from someone who might know something of what looks good or bad.

Cheers,

Neil
