I can't get the Video on my Laptop for some reason, but boy it sounded like I missed a good fight.

IMHO it is madness to provide "environmental" water to the Murray during a drought.

Lake Alexandrina used to be blocked to the sea many times during drought in the past. Why waste water by diverting water now and give farmers no water because of it? Similarly the redgum forests used to tolerate drought in the past and flooding of course.

Thanks for trying Diver, but as I am still using good ole boy Win XP SP3, I suspect I might be up for an upgrade to Win 10 very soon.

It won't play it & it tells me so in uncertain terms, but reading the editorial gives me a decent coverage of what took place. Sounds like fun. Bloody useless me, me, me, full of hot air Pollies!

Thanks again.

Maybe farmers need to start accepting the environment that they work in and farm accordingly - basically drought is the norm not the exception and it is about time they start accepting that.

Environmental flows in the river are important even in drought - in the past if the rivers were not being sucked dry by irrigation, and blocked by weirs etc drought would have been just part of the ebb and flow of the river but when flows are already reduced drought has a major impact.

Regulators are between a rock and a hard place - when there is not enough water for the farmers they complain, but when millions of fish die the regulators also get hammered.

When the agriculture sector start using the environment as it is, rather than what they would like it to be then farmers and the environment will be better off.

I have for many years wondered at what paralysis of intellect was required to start a rice industry in a semi-desert on the driest continent on earth!!!!!![bighmmm]

Have you got a smart TV, Des? [bighmmm] I really don't know Ian, it can't be very smart because it keeps on using up juice... I know I know, it needs to stay warm.[smilebigeye] Makes note to self to find the Manual it may mention that word in there somewhere.. I suspect it is, it is only about 3 years olde.

I am not a fan of the argument that we are doing it so tough that we can't send our kids to boarding school and instead they have to go to the local public school. Obviously a bit of an exception for those who live remote.
While the farmers are doing it tough, most are not doing it as tough as the local businesses. When it does finally rain the farmers will be ok but the local businesses will most likely not recover or come back if they have had to close.
