hi all
Well yesterday I got the red triangle suspension fault message and a further message not to exceed 50Kmh, the car dropped to the bump stops.
I tried reseting the faults (U3000-53 and C1A27-12) with the GAP tool but no luck, they reappeared immediately.
Anyway this morning I have taken the compressor off and dismantled parts of it, but cannot see anything obviously wrong. Plugged it back in and still the same issues plus height alignment faults.
I'm now trying to identify what replacement I need but the various sites quote part number equivalents that do not seem to align with mine. I obviously don't want to purchase an expensive part that won't fit mine so hence asking for help.
My compressor is an AMK and has markings on it as follows;
Alert no A50076050
94464-0 2 4
BH32 19G525 DD
Photos are attached
The date on it is 17.07.2014
I'm looking at buying from the UK Bearmark, Island 4x4 etc unless someone knows of a better source.
My VIN starts F5EA7******
If someone could point me to the replacement that I need that would be fantastic as I can't afford to be off the road long
regards
John

Check the dryer dessicant hasnt turned to powder, you might be lucky and get away with replacing it.

Thx mate, checked that out and they are all solid beige balls, no dust or bits of ball and the top filter is relatively clean.

Make sure you purchase another original AMK, I originally purchased a Bearmach copy of an AMK and it only lasted 7mths (replaced under warranty which was a battle).
Purchased an original AMK form LrDirect no issues not worth saving the $. Got both from LrDirect quick delivery, however not good to deal with if you have a warranty issue

thanks Tony, tried LRDirect but they currently have none in stock, waiting on a quote from Island 4x4 and a couple of other UK suppliers. Local quote was $1,600 + shipping
Interesting I took the compressor off again on Saturday and dismantled it again, put new desiccant in it and tried again, still no luck and faulting straightaway. I then applied a 12v battery directly to the compressor and it started up straight away, although the output with my calibration finger ;) over the end didn't feel strong
I then installed it back temporarily into the car and was able to clear the faults but the car would not come up. Went into the calibration mode on the GAP tool and after numerous attempts managed to get the back up to height and for it to save. After more attempts I managed to get the front up but it was very slow compared to the rear which moved fairly quickly .
The car then did not fault again until yesterday afternoon, but only with the 'normal height only' message and the suspension height maintained.
Not sure what all of this means but I will be replacing it anyway as I now don't trust it.

Reading the above, I’d probably do the same. It sounds like a new compressor is on the cards

Sounds to me like the piston ring/seal is worn out.
Not sure if the AMK are serviceable as the Hitachi units are.
There are a few threads on here about rebuilding Hitachi compressors, im assuming the AMK design is similar.
A rebuild kit is ~160 AUD delivered, 1/10th the cost of a new unit

UPDATE. ok ordered an AMK compressor on Tuesday from Island 4x4 for ~$685 delivered, it arrived Friday morning.
i installed it last night, took around 90 minutes. Used the GAP tool to reset the faults and the calibration tool to set the heights. All good now the car raises quickly and quieter. Yet to take it for a drive as it was a late finish.
All in all happy with the result albeit poorer in the bank account.
A couple of notes should others have to go down this track
1) the mounts on the compressor come untapped and need a M6 * 1 tap
2) the pipe fittings to the dryer are slightly different to the ones I had but once you remove the original hose from the screw thread by push/pull it goes straight on.
I found removal and refit much easier the 2nd time, especially the bracket bolts by using a 10mm 1/4” socket and 2 100mm extension bars for the lower bolts. For the upper mount, Supercheap have a Toolpro 10mm ratchet spanned that’s longer than the ones I had and is perfect.
Thanks for the assistance from all
regards
John

Did you also use the GAP tool to apply the AMK compressor profile, or was it previously on AMK?

other than the clearing of the faults and calibration of the heights I didn’t have do anything else in the GAP as it was an AMK model.

For that price I assume it is an AMK Type compressor and not a genuine AMK as they normally are $1000 up.
Also, if you just replaced the compressor why did you have to do a recalibration?
I hope it all works out for you.
Cheers

It has an AMK sticker on the compressor and described as OEM, manufactured in Germany. Britpart is on the dryer assembly so not genuine, so I’m assuming the compressor is genuine?
I did the calibration as when it dropped to the bump stops the only way I could get it back up with the old compressor was with the calibration, so I wanted to make certain that it was all good as the front seemed to be low. When I measured it per the guided instructions, the front was 35mm lower on the front right, 38mm lower on the left. the back right was 27mm higher on the left and 36mm higher on the right.
So far it’s all going good. I’m going to fully dismantle the old compressor and refurbish it, if possible with a kit.

I saw in your post that the original compressor had an Alert - A50076050. Did you find out what this means? I may be purchasing a replacement compressor from an individual and it has this same sticker on it.

No sorry I never did find out what the sticker meant unfortunately. Once I tracked down a compatible compressor I gave up on finding out the sticker identity

My guess is it’s a safety message due to the item being pressurised. You could probably find it in Topix if using a paid subscription login. Did you ever find a rebuild kit?

for any others looking at compressor replacements
i just finished with my Bearmach air compressor, first one arrived faulty and was send a new one, second one worked for two years before breaking a month out of warranty.
spoke to advanced factors and they said they discontinued the bearmach ones due to too many issues.
the did however say they have had great experience with the Dunlop ones for someone still wanting to save some $$.
i personally went the genuine one this week and it’s fixed my issue along with being much much quieter

My understanding is the Dunlop is a Hitachi clone so not a AMK replacement.
