I’m doing up a ‘59 series 2 88’ and I’m starting to doubt the wheel rims that I inherited.
Stamped on the rim is the following:
5.5FHX16 ROK
12/68 3318D
I’m guessing that 12/68 is a date of manufacture.. Correct? And, if it is then they would seem to be the wrong rims for a 1959 Series 2.
What are the right rims, and how will I know them when I stub my toe on them?
Thanks
John

Unless your doing a rivet perfect restoration and have to have the right year wheels, they’ll be fine. Chuck a set of 650/16’s on them and you’ll be right. Although I could be wrong I think they all look almost the same externally and should fit fine, unless you’re planning on a disc brake conversion, then the early riveted rims won’t clear the calipers.

Dinty posted this, in a previous thread.

Land Rover rims are all 5.50 x 16" and stamped as such;(not including alloy rims or R/Rover cause I dont know anything about them)
231601-- 88" (swb rim)
272309-- 109" (lwb rim) all the ex-mil L/rovers (Series type) were all fitted with 272309 regardless of wheelbase
AYG8038--ROH ?? 109" Series 3
FV 2000727-- 110's (FV= fighting vehicle)
back to the 109 rim 272309 this rim is offset 1 13/16", then a weird rim comes along and is stamped 568966 and the offset on this one is 1 5/16".

I have another listing somewhere, as that didnt help you.

found this.
