This idea has popped up on a D3/4 Facebook page. It seems like not a bad idea, and it doesn’t look like it’s block any more airflow than standard with Spotlights in front.

Thoughts? I can make strong custom brackets

“If anyone wants some more pics of the fitting, check out page 7 of this thread. I did the same, made up some plates for the side out of 2mm carbon sheet I had sitting around.”

It does look good. A good option if not fitting a bar.

Be very careful what size / height unit you consider fitting if you do this.

The factory grill openings are enough to do the job, anything that reduces this at all will have a detrimental effect. remember that D3 link is in the UK not 40c+ Australia.

Driving lights dont actually impede much flow to the cooling system up to certain speeds, as the airflow moves around them and the fan then draws it back through - once a certain speed is attained (varies by make / size etc) then the flow restriction comes into play.

For this exercise - if you dont reduce the opening by any amount - you should be fine.

So it seems it’s not such a bad idea after all. I like it, we’re just not sure if we’re going to fit a bullbar or not. We live in metro Adelaide and really don’t travel at night very much at all. This, in conjunction with a discrete winch mount, might be another option

Me too but not sure how it would look in a D4 grill. Better suited to a D3 I think.

Cheers,

You know what, that didn’t even occur to me! I’m new to the D4 scene so I didn’t even pick that up until just now when I glanced at the front of mine!

Don't laugh. For many years I used my Series II grill as a cooking platform in the bush. Had to scratch my head in wonder at the Series III grill, but.

The UK fitment looks like original factory.
