I put Airlockers in mine for $2200 with the compressor. Admittedly no axel upgrade but I still aint broken anything....yet.
I also fitted mine myself, not real hard if you not changing your crown wheel and pinion.
Ring Jac Mac, have to be cheeper.

I got a rear maxi drive locker + axles + fitting in a Disco last year for $2500

Same quote from a couple of LR specialists ( Ritters. Range Rove )

Sounds like your quote is a little overpriced.

If it helps THe previous owner of my 130 spent $4500 a few years back on doing the rear diff in mine. But he did seem to have an open wallet when it came to the Defender.

Best thing to do is to get a couple of quotes and compare.

Try Range Rov in Mitcham maybe Ritters and you could also try Anthony from Landy Spares.

LRA are always fairly expensive but they also always do a great job.

I had my front maxi fitted for $2350 all up inc. the locker. Admitingly I paid Mal cash for it and picked it up from MD direct so I saved about $200.

The going rate up here in QLD is aboutn $2600 unless you need bearings and so dforth replaced. maybe LRA do these as a matter of principal, but that shouldn't add up to the price you're been quoted.

Good luck with it.

LRA account for replacing the crownwheel and pinion if the car has done over 120,000(i think, could be 200,000). I think the locker and axles are about $1900, plus a ring and pinion, $650+. Don't know where they got $3000+ from, that must be fitted. If you have to change ratios, go the toy route with jacmac axles and tjm prolocker, a fair bit cheaper and you get a stonger diff.

I wouldnt mind knowing more detailed information about this conversion. Any one got a web site? Im fully expecting my front axle assy will self destruct some time in the near future.

what do you need to know? If you want to have a look at minew before they go in let me know (go in next weekend), or there is a good write up on this on Pirate4x4.
Basically its a hilux rear centre, 80 or 100 series high pinion front, Jacmac axles, toyota cv's, all in rover housings.

it's also been discussed more times than I can remember on OL.
You can do a search on Outerlimits Rover board here

Only prob is the high pinion TOJO centres suck, they are weaker than any rover CW&P when used in reverse, 35's, mild right foot in reverse and SNAP one ****ed high pinion ****ota centre, from experience not interent education to!

Cloughy, are you still running KAM centres or a low pinion 'yota ?
If KAM, what's the tooth count, if you can remember ?
Wasn't someone making Rover centres with a 'different' tooth count to get some more toothe engagement/strength ?

Save your money and get ARB lockers front and rear and you can get something else with the savings. I am running them both front and rear and others can tell you I give them plenty of use and have had no problems.

Yea KAM gears, meant to be the best of aftermarket rover gears, tooth count is 41/10 4.1 ratio, they've been in for a few years now

Yea tooth counts can be 4.1 41/10 or 4.11 37/9

Just buy the Maxidrives and fit them yourself. Take your time and follow the instructions. If I can do it...:p
