Trying to understand the Middle East is not easy for the Western mind, and that is an understatement. It is obvious the biggest mistake was invading Iraq, bringing down Saddam and the Baathists, and not having a plan for after the battle. That's easy to say, but for the West, almost impossible to do. Especially when the bottom line is not so much looking after the people, but controlling the oil.
