G'day all,
Can anyone tell me for sure what the coating is on the potentiometer that has the L322 sending transbox neutral signals.
Looking into someone that might be able to repair or strip and recoat the coating.
Cheers

There’s a long thread on the pot issue on full fat RR - haven’t checked in for sometime there, but there may be something on this there.

Some say graphite and some say carbon?

I think the more pertinent question is what resistance they are using - or resistance per CM to be more precise. I’m sure the values for the pot will be listed somewhere.

I have removed the trans case shift motor and removed the encoder/potentiometer.
Question, how do I open the 2 halves to see if mine has worn holes in the coating?
I'm a bit gun shy as usually I end up breaking things with too much force or not knowing the mechanics of it.

This any help ? Not quite sure how far you have stripped it .

Thanks Laurie,
That shows me how to test it but I would also like to look inside it to check for holes in the coating.
Do you have the pins diagram as explained in the video so I can do this test?
Cheers

I don't have a copy of the pins, but this link may be helpful, consensus is the interior is graphite.

The saga continues.
Followed the video, power to the motor, works great. Connect
Multimeter and no reading, reconnect motor to battery with multimeter connected (be easier if I was an octopus ) cycling motor and no reading on multimeter.
Me thinks something broken, maybe encoder.

Have you seen this ?

Either direct replacement or they might sell you their sensor and get it fitted locally ?

G'day Laurie,
Yes I flicked them an email on Friday and am waiting for a reply. I also sent an email to Cardone in the USA who also remanufacture these motors and encoders.
I'll keep you abreast of any replies that I get.
Not expecting any till tonight when the UK wakes up and Tues or Wed for the USA.
Cheers

Received a response from Cardone, we don't sell to the public. Response from Summit Racing, we don't stock that part.
Still waiting for 4x4lro to respond, been over a week now. How do these companies stay in business or business must be really good that you can just payoff potential customers.
SIGH

Tell them you want to be a dealer for them but due to potential limited sales opportunities you only want to stock 1 of them... [emoji16]

Might be worth a try but I'd have to buy a complete unit and not just the encoder.
But thanks for the thought.

Well, we maybe making some headway, last night I was in touch with Andrew from 4x4lro (he was having email issues, hence the long wait for a reply). It seems that it is not just a straight swap of the encoder to update the transfer case shift motor.

The shaft that the encoder sits on needs to be machined and then a new encoder with a printed circuit board is applied to complete the project upgrade.

Andrew is having a look on the weekend to see if he can find a motor beyond repair and take out the gear shaft, machine it and forward to me with the new encoder.
If and when it arrives we may be able to duplicate the machining here and purchase the encoder from Andrew.
Just a thought. I'll keep you all in the loop as this unfolds.
Cheers

Received a reply from Andrew today and he did not find a unit with a motor that was beyond repair.
His best offer is £485 plus postage. Which today equates to $998 plus postage at today's exchange rate.
There is a guarantee with the unit which then is quite substantial costs just in postage back and forth.
I'll have to ponder this a little longer, any thoughts from the forum?
Cheers

Well business must be good in WA as I have received no response from my email from the company, just getting sick of lazy people and no responses from companies.

G'day Laurie,
Not as yet and I've given up holding my breathe. Like I said business must be good that you can ignore customers.
I have purchased a new transfer case shift motor from TR Spares Sydney.
Thanks again for your help.
