Hi,
If anyone on here is a pilot or a controller, if you have the time, could you please email or PM. I am currently trying to undergo medical certification by CASA and would like to discuss details of this.
Thanks in advance:)

Hello Joel ,
When you say you are still at School - Do you mean High School or Flying School ?
Your age is not clear from your signature or previous posts .
Medical Certification - is dependant on the Authority you are applying to .
More info would be required for a more relevant reply .

I am at High school. I won't be flying, I am interested in working as a controller (enroute) and would like to speak with others on here that are controllers (or pilots that know of controllers) regarding the CASA medical certificates. That is, how stringent they are and other details.
HTH
I shall be applying to air services australia
Thanks,

Camo is a private pilot and am fairly sure has recently completed his commercial licencing.

I have a commercial licence and am ex military aircrew but no longer work in the industry so haven't had my licence endorsed for many years so have not been through the medical process for a long time.
If you are a normal healthy teenager you shouldn't have any problems - the main sort of issues will be eyesight and maybe hearing. Why not contact the licencing authorities here in Canberra to find out what the standards are?
I just did a Google on "health standards air traffic control" and number of pages including the home page of an air traffic controller came up so there are plenty of leads.

I have been a private pilot for many years. Aviation medical examiners are doctors in private practice authorised by CASA. The actual standards should be somewhere on their website.
For a controller, if you are reasonably young and have no disabilities the medical is not very demanding. The main things that will count you out are heart disease, epilepsy, diabetes or any other condition likely to lead to sudden incapacitation, poor colour vision, poor vision (but correction is allowed) or poor hearing.
Hope this helps.

Hi Joel, Im a commercial helicopter pilot and have to maintain a Class 1 medical certificate, this is done every 12 months. As a young bloke you shouldn't have too much trouble, unless you can't hear or see too well.
In fact I think the opthalmic test for eyes has been dropped, as it isn't required under ICAO (international) licencing.
A medical takes about 30-40 mins includes a general run over your body, reflexes, stretching, read the eye chart, colour blind chart, height, weight etc.
Every couple of years depending on your age you need to do a audiogram to check the heart.
Generally costs around $110-130 depending what has to be done, then CASA charge $130 for processing.
Always appears to me to be a stressfull job as an ATC, but wish you all the all the best.
