Prospeed roof rack - mesh floor fitted

Back in March, I asked if anyone had fitted a mesh floor to their Prospeed roof rack.

No one had, so I went and had some made. [smilebigeye]

The spec was to have them strong enough to walk on, light enough not to impact too much on what load capacity the roof has in the first place, and particularly to give me flexible tie-down points.

Here's the result.

Aluminium plate frame (6mm), with diamond mesh panels, powder coated in gloss black to match the Prospeed frame. Supported by lip inserts, and fastened with M8 20mm hex head mushroom bolts. (Coulda gone black, but silver were easier to come by.)
They feel very light, but I didn't think to put them on a scale to check their weight.

Three rectangular panels in all. Note centre bar support (also 6mm aluminium).

I trialled them on a week-long trip in September in their uncoated state. Worked a treat!
The awning mount is the Prospeed hinged job that means my awning lays flat when not in use.
As for noise when there's no load? There isn't any.

Neat as, looks great in black PC. I like the pivot awning mount, have seen them before.

Also like the wind deflector at the front and sides. My pioneer platform with the backbone could use a front deflector, wonder if......

Likely, different end achievements though.

Reds has versatility of tie down points.
PS has a good tropical roof function.

I have the PS panels, and then eyelets. With the added shade to the roof it works well here in Whyalla sun.

Yep, for me it was versatile tie-downs.

The panels were essentially a custom build with commensurate pricing. I dare say if the bloke who made them, or anyone else, made a pattern and knocked them out in batches, it would work out cheaper.

I like it, especially the lay down awning, as I think a lot of cars look terrible with it sticking out the side. You also have the added bonus of using it to grill on if you make your steaks, patties, sausages large enough.

I like it, especially the lay down awning, as I think a lot of cars look terrible with it sticking out the side. You also have the added bonus of using it to grill on if you make your steaks, patties, sausages large enough.
The best thing is I can pop the pivot pins and store the awning in the garage when not in use. It saves the PVC bag from rotting away in constant sun.
I might have to do a separate post about that.
As for grilling, I reckon the powder coat - as good as it is - wouldn't hold up to the heat! [wink11]
