I understand this will impact soon on all business in a bigger way than many might realize. If you can stomach the topic a starting point might be a Ted Talk "In the war for information, will quantum computers defeat cryptographers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3BJVaioX_k)? by Craig Costello
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3BJVaioX_k
One or several of Craig's topics had me thinking where this almost revolution in computing will see winners and losers and a micro and macro level.
Security we take for granted is an assumption and will see an arms race as at a Macro level it is a world level game changer.
For light reading I have enjoyed "What Is Quantum Mechanics? (https://www.livescience.com/33816-quantum-mechanics-explanation.html)" "Quantum Information Theory (https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/physics-and-astronomy/quantum-information-theory)" and "Schumacher’s quantum data compression as a quantum computation (https://journals.aps.org/pra/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevA.54.2636)"
Just in case you think its a lot of waffle check out IBM Q Quantum computing (https://www.ibm.com/quantum-computing/?cm_mmc=Search_Google-_-Systems_Systems%20-%20Infrastructure-_-WW_IAN-_-%2Bquantum%20%2Bcomputing_b&cm_mmca1=000019DR&cm_mmca2=10000539&cm_mmca7=9071363&cm_mmca8=kwd-301586261173&cm_mmca9=EAIaIQobChMImZT6sOSi5gIVESUrCh0_qAyoEAAYA SAAEgLUd_D_BwE&cm_mmca10=392221273132&cm_mmca11=b&gclid=EAIaIQobChMImZT6sOSi5gIVESUrCh0_qAyoEAAYASAA EgLUd_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)
"0 years, 10 or 30 its in someways it is already to late" retroactive hacking of cloud computing would bite almost all of our companies.
I think we can safely assume all our current proximity keys using binary coding will be hack-able and cars will be stolen. When of course is the question
Craig is interesting Senior Researcher in the Security and Cryptography group at Microsoft Research ... My tiny brain finds it difficult to cope with all this jiggery pokery, but I understand all that we know will be torn away by the future. It's a progression of the human condition. Humans seem hell bent on changing every thing that makes us human. I haven't had time to go through all your links, but I will try.

Just watched the TED talk. WOW. Trying to get my head around it. Perhaps the 12 monkeys movie was closer to the truth than we think.

Quantum theory is mind blowing I agree. Binary code which drives everything we use now ( including our cars) is just Zeros and Ones.
Learning computers keeps changing and changeling. 1980-90s computing in the navy was 8 inch floppies and honestly the cheapest phone now is 1000 time more powerful. The Ted talk and Craigs simple way of discussing a very complex issue is I bet, a topic at Cyber security courses and all universities now.
My car keys are not that smart. My works computing is highly secure and can be taken off line if needed. I will need Quantum encryption
MyHealth Records, Taxation and services such as electricity and water are micro issues. Navy, army, AirForce kit is now highly connected.
The Aegis Combat System is conventional and Nuclear and its security is totally binary. Just like everything at present) Our new F-35s and subs yet to be built all crossed my mind listing to the pod cast.
Technological Progress - Our World in Data (https://ourworldindata.org/technological-progress)
The rate of growth will explode with this coming change. The chatter about 5g is insignificant I think compared to Quantum Computing

Yes, it seems the World is on the cusp of technological advancement never before imagined. It will leave people like me far behind. When you think about the first manned flight, and what's happened since, it took over a normal lifetime of a human to reach this stage. Now we see these achievements that seem to happen in our short life span, who knows what lays ahead. Exciting times for our grandchildren, but me, I'm content to fade away , gracelessly.

The outcomes of it are either:
We acquire enough capability to theoretically solve all mankind’s problems.
We implode... all tech advances have been leading us to where we are now. In a complex, ****ed up society that’s destined to make humans extinct.

Fully agree Tombie. A little like Nuclear power. Abuse as a weapon or a savoir if fusion works

Of interest is fusion research will be significantly enhanced and speeded up by Quantum computing.
a possibly simpler way of understanding Quantum computing

All is not lost. As long as there's a Merv Bushwacker in the future, she'll be sweet, cobber. And hopefully fusion will be the answer to our power generation. And Space travel.

I hope we don’t develop better space travel.
As a species we shouldn’t look to send our issues out into the Galaxy. We can’t get along on our own rock, how will we go out there?
The human race are the shallowest, most self indulgent, vapid, narcissistic species on the Earth. We shouldn’t be attempting to go anywhere until we can get our own house in order.

Came across this. I can't comment because it is way out of my understanding zone.

"While quantum computers are not yet at a point where they can do useful things, this result demonstrates that they have an inherent advantage over ordinary computers for some tasks."
Not yet. Close but no cigar.
