Hi all,
First post here as I'm hoping to buy a new Range Rover this year, there seems to be a few engine and spec models in the range.
3.0l turbo diesel, 5.0l i Petrol v8, 5.0l supercharged petrol v8

6 speed transmissions and 8 speed transmissions.

I'd like to buy the newest l322 model i can as the the current version is out of my price range for low kms,
I don't plan to do any off road work,
I need the 3500kg towing capacity to tow my boat around twice a month to the local boat ramp.
I don't care about fuel consumption
I have a shed full of tools for my tractor restos, so I can fix most issues, although lifting the body off the chassis maybe a difficult job since I don't have a hoist.

Which 2012 spec Range Rover is the most reliable and which spec l322 would you buy if you had a choice???

All round performer go for a 2011/12 4.4 TdV8 230kW @ 4000rpm and 700Nm @ 1500-3000rpm 8 speed auto with plenty of towing capability and very reasonable fuel economy for a big vehicle.

Personally I like the Luxury/ Autobiography spec which has heated and cooled front seats, rear screens etc.

If you want power and don't care about fuel ! Autobiography is the way to go, supercharged with 375kW @ 6500rpm and 625Nm @ 2500-5500rpm 6 speed auto with rear electronic active diff lock standard and all the other goodies standard.

This is a incomplete 2010/11 model list , but will give you an idea

My understanding is that Adaptive dynamics as applies to the L322 comprises of CVDs (continuously variable dampers) and they are standard on all MY11/12 regardless of spec level, optional on certain MY10.

Whilst e-diff was standard on the SC, it was optional for other engines regardless of spec level but rarely fitted and has no relationship with the CVDs. The 4.4 has a higher diff ratio than the 5.0 NA/SC so harder to find an e-diff to retrofit, but not impossible.

I understood that Adaptive Cruise control was not available on any AU spec vehicles although I retro-fitted it to my AB.

Rear inclined seats were an option even on the AB - my late MY12 doesn't have it. It doesn't have a Venture camera either.

The 3.6 TDV8 was the diesel engine for MY10 and the 4.4 TDV8 for MY11/12. The 4.4 has bags of torque but even the 5.0 NA with its 6-speed gbox out accelerates it to 100 kph according to LR brochures.

Redbook lists the following options on a 2011 Australian Spec TdV8 Luxury. I can see why adaptive cruise control was a very rare item [bighmmm] I'm not sure where they got the details from ? The best value by far is the rarely optioned E-diff. [thumbsupbig]

About a year before I bought mine (so circa 2015) I looked at a 2010 Autobiography at the Grays Online depot in Vic, it had the reclining rear seats option, e-diff and I'm pretty sure it also had the adaptive cruise as it was throwing an error on startup IIRC.

EDITED TO ADD:

It was this one (and in 2016):

https://www.graysonline.com/lot/0001-3408650/motor-vehiclesmotor-cycles/2010-landrover-range-rover-vogue-tdv8-autobiography-166-812-km'spr=true#&gid=1&pid=1

a VIN Check would confirm if it did have the Adaptive cruise or not. It has a picture of the rear reclining seat control.

I can see the ACC buttons on the steering wheel. However I can see them on mine too!

This 2010 Supercharged also appears to have the adaptive cruise (and reclining seat options).

On a segue... I thought the steering wheel gearstick paddles came with the rotary gear knob. This car seems to have the 'traditional' gearstick and also the steering wheel paddles:

The last petrol v8 5.0 L322s didn’t get the 8 speed, and instead continued with the 6hp26. The petrol L405s did get the ZF 8 speed with dial selector.

Interestingly the L494, also fitted with the ZF 8 speed went with stick style selector.

I've realised that if the 4-pot Brembos from an RRS and the 350mm discs from the na 5.0 / 3.6 L322 are fitted in place of the 6-pot calipers and 380mm discs then the 18" Compomotives can be fitted to these later L322s. The L322 4-pots don't mount at least due to their smaller mounting holes and also possibly but unlikely different hole spacing. Standard D4 18" rims fit the rear. Hmm, 18" without resorting to the na 5.0's 2-piston sliding caliper aka 3.0 D4 caliper.

Which 2012 spec Range Rover is the most reliable and which spec l322 would you buy if you had a choice???For your stated intended use, the much loved in the D4 5.0 petrol is normally the cheapest by a fair margin.

NB. The body does not lift off the L322 - it has front and rear sub-frames.
