Finished this one off this morning.

It's not a job for the faint hearted!

But now that it's done, I'm quite pleased with the result.

There are two different kits, depending on if it's a single view or dual view screen.

This one was a dual view.

Thanks Cam - looks great

Am I seeing this right, where the thicker round white cable, presumably the USB (?) is being spliced into the OEM logic board connector, then an additional board is added to the rear (with the rainbow cable)?

No soldering of parts, but a bit of fiddling and hot glue gunning?

Is the process about the same for the D4 MY10?

Thanks mate.

So to explain it a bit better

The two PCB's which are added to the screen, are just for intercepting and switching the video signal in and touch signals out.

The cables are then run to the Video Interface module, which is then connected to a Phone Interface module.

This is the concept;

You don't have to do any soldering inside the screen, but handling the ribbon cables is quite a delicate operation.

Some soldering is required to connect power, the AUX input (unless you run a cable to the AUX socket), and in the D4/RRS you need to tap the MS-CAN wires, some soldering there too.

Can it be done for the 08 headunits?

I'm assuming it becomes another input. I'd also like to explore replacing the DVD stacker with a harddrive AVI player.

It's a different kit for the 2005-2009 models (because different screen hardware), but yes it can be done, both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Hacking the DVD stacker is a different matter, it uses the Alpine AI-NET protocols, I don't recall anyone getting external video devices working with it, not in the Land Rovers anyhow.

The kits are put together with modules from two different companies in Korea.

I can supply & install in Sydney, or if up for DIY I could provide just the kit.

Is the button that selects CarPlay open to choice or must it be the phone hang up button? Doe the hang up button lose its function?

What's the price - happy to receive if DM if you prefer?

Hang up button functions normally when taking and ending calls. You hold it in for about 3 seconds to switch between std and Carplay.

Send me PM for more details.

Looks interesting. What is required to do this on a 2011 L322 with the dual view screen. I'm confident with the diy side of doing this. And what is the cost for a kit in Vic.
Cheers

I haven't installed one, but from what i've seen online it's the typical android widescreen unit with an i-bus interface for the steering wheel controls & a MOST-AUX box to run the factory amp.

And a grey-colour surround to match the console.

I'm putting an Android widescreen in a 2003 L322 this weekend, but that doesn't have MOST of course.

But it would be basically the same thing just with the MOST-AUX box & a some different connectors to adapt to the factory wiring.

thanks

I had a 7" android unit in my 2004 L322 and it worked well - integrated with the factory amp + apple carplay.

Wonder if the rear screens can still be used with these 10" units. Would certainly give the car a refresh as the UI in the 2008 is quite dated now.

From pictures, it looks the same platform (very shallow unit behind the screen) as the 10" unit I installed in the wife's car - being a VW integration is simple compared to LR - this unit is brilliant. Was hesitant about the no buttons but it's not an issue.

I think the factory Rear Seat Entertainment will be no longer useable with one of those widescreen units.

That's the case with the D3/RRS from 2005-2009 when fitting an aftermarket screen or head unit anyhow.

Even if the factory head unit is retained "in the loop"...

If you have factory RSE then the CarPlay / Android Auto kit that integrates with the factory screen is really the only option.

Have just had my 08 L322 audio system upgraded and had Apple car play and Android integrated into the existing sytem without losing any of the previously installed features.
Done in Perth and there was an initial glitch associated with an issue with my touch screen (not the system they installed), but eventually they sorted my screen by putting a new touch screen on it and everything 100% working and hand's free phone access.
Origional sat nav and all origional features still operating, as well as having all "Car Play" features.
I had additional charging sockets installed by I think the basic integrated unit was $1600 all done and they reckon no problem upgrading any Range Rover/Land Rover.
Incredible amount of work with them stripping out almost the entire dash.
Everything else in the workshop being Ferrari's, Mercs, Maserati's and Beemers, and all his techies appear to be very on the ball as far as dealing with car audio and "difficult" cars.

I understand the units are Korean made and come out of Melbourne, so I expect there are installers in other states who can also nintegrate the units.
I used the "carstereoshop" 342 Beaufort st Perth, Jason proprietor. He may be able to advise who to contact in Melbourne, and they in turn may have installers in other states.

Wow! Wireless carplay in our old l322's is just what we only could dream about: thank you for hard work!
It's almost impossible to find any info about so deep electronic/music/satnav-processes of 2010-2012 generation.

Is it possible to get some kind of installation manual? Badly want to get one of whose kits, but living in Russia makes it difficulty to make setup in Melbourne[smilebigeye]

Hi,
Does anybody know if there is any way to grab video from original screen and push it as video stream, or any other way to android device like these widescreen units?
Is there just direct LVDS connection between main unit and lcd screen or maybe there is any video bus between navi unit and the rest of the screen.

BR.

So what i found, there should be used something like TLP410 to convert RGB signal from original screen to HDMI /DVI then emulated touch, and some Android softwate to display, send touch commands and emulate hardware buttons. At this moment the biggest problem is to create RGB to hdmi converter, i didn't found any redy to buy solution.
