Years ago I had paid anti-virus programs on my computer and frankly were a waste of money so I changed to AVG Free.

Now I know some people do not like it but it has been Ok for me, except for AVG popups advertising their products and trying to get me to upgrade all the time - is very very annoying. I have contacted AVG about this and they tough - gotta put up with it. CC Cleaner does the same and as a result I do not use CC cleaner any longer.

Can anyone recommend another free anti-virus program that does not come with software promotion popups. If I want to "enhance" my protection then I will go to the website and see what is available.

Thanks

Garry

sophos home free is the best i have come across

Download Sophos Anti Virus Security for PCs | Sophos Home Antivirus (https://home.sophos.com/en-us/download-antivirus-pc.aspx)

you get the full version for a month and the associated pestering but then it pretty much goes away

all the old favorites like avast avg etc etc are now bigger data thieves than most trojans...

sophos home free is the best i have come across

Thanks Dave - all installed and on first scan picked up a number of issues that AVG had missed including a major threat.

Hey Dave, what's your opinion on the in-house Windows Defender software? It's all I have ever used, but always open to better advice...
Chris.

in windows 10 ?
for most people it is more than enough if they don't engage in any sort of risky behavior like downloading music and video etc etc etc
any risky behavior then use sophos imho but it may inconvenience you...

any other version of windows ?
the best option i know of is sophos home premium

Windows defender is pretty good, as for paid products Cylance is pretty good and has picked up issues at my work pretty quick. They have some well priced intro deals.
