View Full Version : Harry and Megan not welcome in Canada?

bob10

Does that mean they will be coming here? That's all we need. NZ would be a more attractive option, surely?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry told they're 'not welcome' in Canada (https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/world/meghan-markle-and-prince-harry-told-theyre-not-welcome-in-canada/ar-BBZ1LSN?ocid=spartandhp)

I wouldnt be fussed if they even moved into my street...

Whats the problem Bob?

This bloke has done tours, works for veterans and is a decent sort of bloke. If he has his own funding, why should we care.

bob10

It's not clear what they would be doing. Bludging off the public purse? Princes of England belong in England. As long as they stay in Canada, good luck to them.

Complete BS. They are very welcome here.

I've been following the whole train-wreck media coverage (I just can't seem to look away). It's an incredibly polarizing situation, so you get bouquets and brickbats from either side depending on what the "journalist" is writing at that exact moment. Feed that into the amplifier of social media and you end up with 10's of thousands of vacuous nitwits trumpeting their opinion as if it's the sole truth (a bit like the climate change debate I suppose).

I suspect provided they aren't a drain on the public purse, they're probably welcome pretty much anywhere. It's the T&Cs surrounding funding their ongoing security that seems to be the major sticking point.

OK. Now I have your attention, my take on it is this. No matter what Harry and Megan do, they will always be regarded by some as the Royal bludger and his social climbing wife. [ not by me]. Harry has " issues ", mostly over the life and death of his Mother , Diana Spencer. Ok. I respect Harry's hopes to be independant, make his own way in the World. I respect Megan, because she is independant, and her own woman. Here's the go. If Harry and Megan want to go to Canada , Harry should renounce his Royalty, and they should go as Harry and Megan Spencer. Just two more immigrants, with no more special treatment than any other immigrant to Canada. Security would be an issue, but Dad should look after that. They would make their mark, because look at their connections. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than see young Harry stand on his own two feet, and once he became Mr Spencer, Megan could demonstrate she married for love, not social status. The beauty about Canada is they could go over the border and be just two people in the crowd,[ well Harry may have to wear a Groucho moustache, but you get my drift] Harry needs this for his mental health and I think the Queen has shown wonderful understanding over the issue. Charles however ….. well he'll get over it. I say again, Prince Harry can stay home. Harry Spencer however, is welcome anytime.

Hi Bob,

I agree with everything that you say.

However - I can’t help but think that Harry and Megan will play on their name/heritage/connections - all which comes from being a royal.

Is Harry going to get a job driving a fork lift?

Or will he do motivational talks?

If he didn’t have his name - would he get a job in the real world?

I highly doubt it.... [emoji3]

Its not like he needs any more income to live a long and comfortable life...

You may have noticed he also did a couple of tours, he’s a more than capable, hard working individual.

If you think being a continual public figure is a life of privilege you’re fooling yourselves.

I'm not knocking his military service. Although to say he did a couple of tours is a misnomer, his first tour was cut short because an Australian woman's magazine
let it be known he was there, and he was brought home early, which was fair enough. And you have completely missed the point. If you think he hasn't had a life of privilege, you are kidding yourself.[ here it goes again. backwards and forwards insulting each other. don't you people know any other way of debate?] But it's his life of privilege that has him where he's at now. Unsure of his place in the World, having to cope with the stories from the great unwashed that the woman he loves only married him for the money and privilege. The ongoing back story of his mother. No wonder it's done his head in. I've made my point. And I am not fooling myself. Think of another insult.

The more interesting question is do you think the queen will have her knocked?
Royals dont like there laundry aired out like this.

I give them 5 years tops before they divorce or an accident happens.

I debated with myself to delete this thread at the outset seeing it is based on "gossip" , completely alien to the topic of Land Rovers, Of common knowledge as this discussion appears in most of the women's magazines, newspapers etc.

I am now sorry that I let it run as it reads like an Instagram pile on..

Please ladies and Gentlemen , and I use the terms loosely, refrain from attacks on individuals. You do realise that the posts above are in a sense political as the Queen is the head of Australia.

The bottom line is No Idea and Women's Weakly and Co will have gossip fodder for the next year or two. My take is that Megan is a bit of a manipulator and has been working towards this since the outset. She knew what the gig entailed and yet she has been bucking it since putting the ring on.

Good luck to them. Go away and do your own thing but all the hiss and wind over it is juts a waste of time when there are more deserving people to comment on like Greta and Woody Allen.

Perhaps a lesson in syntax is required? Fooling oneself does not make one a fool. And the belief that being the continual target of paparazzi harassment, the inability to do any of the simple pleasures we take for granted etc is not my definition of privilege. And all the things going on in his life are your (or my) business / problem, HOW?

A retired Sailor/Postie, An IT guy and a Mining Manager are hardly in a position to judge where/when/why he and his wife do anything.

You’re speaking like his on call therapist when all the info you (or anyone) has, is literally just gossip column fodder.

Leave him and his wife alone.

There are forums out there specifically for this ****.

Certain persons can’t help but start this threads, and with all the warnings continue to walk the edge.

Unfortunately Mr Tombie misses the point entirely.

What I am saying is - all of his wealth comes purely because he is a royal.

I agree that I wouldn’t want to live my life in the press.

If Harry truly wants to leave the royals, that’s great. Move to another country, leave everything behind, change his name and start from scrath. I would have massive respect for him if he did.

As for Mr Tombie - calling people names when they disagree with you, and running away is not my view of a healthy debate.

But that’s just my opinion.

Maybe even commercial fixed wing. Harry flew Apaches. One 101 owner I know here in Sinney was an Australian Army chopper and now flies/flew 747s for Qantas (Has Qantas got any left?).

Most respect others despite differing opinions which is great. Debate allows for growth.
To outright just try to be insulting and negative to forum members does nothing for the forum in general.

As for campfire talk.

Agree, no way would I have walked away.
A good discussion around the campfire always has a good ending, it's when "keyboard warriors" get involved, that is when thoughts get "crossed" & it all goes to rubbish,....I've never had a face to face discussion that's ended in tears, whether I've agreed or disagreed.

I don’t reckon at the onset of the thread it broke any rules....be a big call to start deleting thread ls just because you don’t like gossip....maybe you need to change the definition of GC?

Maybe you can delete GC completely?

Maybe you can ignore GC

Not you. Your quote just set me off.

Actually, I should have clarified that it was not specific. I've observed a number of whinges over the last couple of weeks, so it's targeted As much as a dirty bomb is "targeted".

Its the whole "waa I don't like what you said you big meanie" attitude that gets me. Grow a pair and just ignore it rather than get the net police to intervene. If you don't have the willpower to just ignore it, then use the "ignore" list on the forum.

of course my little rant is just perpetuating the issue, and I'm obviously just as guilty of not ignoring the thin skinned whingers, so I best leave it here.

The standard you walk past is the standard you accept. Seriously Bob, "Real" Men don't whine and moan to everyone when they feel "Aggrieved", They either deal with it or simply take the high road and ignore it.
Due to the proliferation of Political Correctness over the last couple of decades we seem to be producing more and more "Sooky La La's" that snivel, whine and moan to all and everyone every time someone disagrees with them or calls them out, This is Definitely Not what REAL Men do.

I've largely stayed out of this thread to date, but as an "Old Pom", & a Monarchist, I've been very disappointed by these "proceedings".
Prior to his meeting with this "woman", I've been very impressed with Harry, seemed to be a pretty normal "knockabout" sort of bloke, enjoyed a drink, a smoke, whatever,....He was up for it,.....and the Public loved him, everywhere He went, He was mobbed,...just so good with ordinary folk, the "People's Prince" sort of thing. Really good for the Royals I thought. William's pretty good too, but more in line of what a "Royal"/Prince "should be" etc, seems like a decent man, but Harry was the one the Public loved....He was up for anything.
And then this woman comes along, & everything started to change, she wasn't happy with this, that's not right, I don't want to do that, & there were too many rumors of her nasty, "uppity" behavior to officials etc, for them not to be true. All the "trappings" of Royalty,..she loved it, the best housing, unlimited spending, flights/trips anywhere all paid for,..yeah she loved all that....And Harry made her famous, without him she would've been nothing.
But anyway, Harry fell in love with her, He loves her & that is the main thing, but, and some on here will have a go, so go for it, I don't like her, never have, always saw Her as a "gold digger", "I'm better than thou" sort of person,...and as soon as she got her claws into Harry, and that's when He started to change.
Anyway, the exit seems to be going quite cleanly, it's unclear at this stage what the "public purse" will continue to provide, but it appears that it will be greatly reduced. Harry's given up a lot for his Lady, & so I hope they have a long & happy life together.
And of course, through it all, our wonderful Queen has been most dignified.
Just my thoughts, & all, only IMHO, of course, Pickles.

Harry is not the first young man to give it all away for a pretty lady.

I wonder if there will be any deep seeded resentment over this in years to come?

I believe if you change for someone else you will likely end up resenting those who made you change as change should come from within.

What make you believe you have the right to have an opinion on who someone chooses as a partner?

As you have said, it is an OPINION, not a regulation.

We all have rights to our opinions.

Personally I don't care what they do , if the media just left them alone instead of speculating a new head line every day it may be would not have come to this
There are more important things happing in Australia & the world that would make better headlines than what they may or may not be doing. I noticed that once they made there announcement our fires moved to half way down the page & the Royals mover to the top of the page & have been there since , even the storms in Qld & Vic didn't make to the top.
Well that's my tilt on it.[bigwhistle]

Harry is not the first young man to give it all away for a pretty lady.

Are you thinking of Edward VIII who wanted Wallis Simpson more than he wanted the throne of England?
