Central locking remote RR Classic

Has anyone tried replacing one of these? Is it straight to the dealer and pay a fortune or are there other ways around this?

A 1994 LSE by the way, and (I'm assuming) same as Disco 1.

We had an aftermarket unit fitted by the local auto elec when we had a classic rangie with the works

i think you will save a few dollars if you order from the uk.....

i have not heard of an after market source for these....im sure someone makes them though....
i doubt land rover manufacture remotes.....

IIRC... If you've got a 1994 LSE then you could have one of two different types. If it's the type that's similar to the 300TDi series Disco (i.e. the 'Soft Dash' model) then you may well be better off getting them posted out from the UK.

The other thing to note is that you'll need to get a dealer to program the ECU to accept the new remote.

If you order from overseas you will need to indicate Aust Specs because the UK and Aust remotes are on different frequencies and are not compatible.

Get a second hand one from TR Spares in SA - about $45 but as said they need to be coded at the dealer.

The Classic RRs sold here only had the single button remote.

I doubt you can get an aftermarket type as they're a rolling code system.

The RRs sold in Australia use 315MHz.

They don't need to be coded by a dealer.
There is a specific sequence to use for coding to the car though which I can send to you if you need it.

Just to confuse things... There were actually a couple of different factory fit alarms that had single button remotes though a RaRo of that age probaby has the same system as a Disco.

That reset sequence is only once the remote has been coded to the ECU. It's used when you need to re-sync the rolling code.

The procedure I have is headed:
"To initialise the remote unit to the ECU ....."
We use it when replacing a remote (new or used) to operate on that particular vehicle.

To re-sync the rolling code, just press the remote until the car unlocks/locks.
The code only rolls 4 times.
