Checked over an F Truck today.. asked what engine in it...same as your's he said pointing to our D4. No I said that's petrol.

OMG I said is it really....why he said...well...In LRs they can give some trouble and you know about the belts don't you.

**** he said they didnt tell me that...

Heard about any crank issues or turbo issues or manifold issues I asked.. na he said.

Nothing I said......

Question: are they really the same engine...I saw it was made in the UK??

I trust Ford has addressed all issues by now.

Bonus if they are the same as used ones will soon be available given the US rate of vehicle turnover😚

Basically the same engine, made in the UK and in the US is called the Powerstroke 3.0 Diesel.

Slightly off subject, I saw in Geeveston (Tas) today a QLD registered RH Drive NISSAN TITAN XD American truck similar to F250 etc . It had a Cummins engine and when I commented that it appeared slightly smaller than an F truck he agreed and said it was known as a 5/8ths truck! Never heard that expression before! Still was a 4X4 but not so huge and overpowering as an F truck/RAM etc. He said it was last of the series with Cummins and they all have the V8 Patrol petrol engine now. Still prefer my D4!

Oooops..I've upset him a bit...he loves the car ($150k) and its towing capacity of 4.5t...he considered a 200 series or another luxury pack hilux but was concerned about what you don't get with Toyota so he went for the F Truck instead.

Anyhow he rang the dealer who told him the crank is now made in the USA and not France so it's all fixed🙄

Plus Ford have done extensive durability testing and will back up the engine.

Given the FTruck sales numbers I guess they are likely to be far more responsive to their customers than JLR ever would be.

Anyhow....it's a nice truck...very comfortable, reasonably efficient and surprisingly nimble to drive albeit the steering is very direct..somewhat twitchy in my view. Looks big but is only about 30cm longer than a new Hilux.

I can see why they are selling so well☺

The twin turbo 4.4 diesel v8 in my L322 was originally destined for north America for their F trucks and commercials. Typically, the septics decided a "gas" engine was more appealing...🤬😫

The engine is made in the UK not France and the crank is also made in the UK (plans were made to make the engine in the US but these were cancelled) - according to the the specs the bottom end has been "upgraded" with new components including a forged crankshaft with specific rod and crank bearings and a variable-geometry turbocharger - so I guess by that the LR version is not a forged crankshaft - also the F150 engine only has one turbo.

Funny that the owner said that it was twin turbo...and crank made in the USA...yes forged...and yes engine made in the UK. Dealer also confirmed body off for belts too...in 7 years he said.

Maybe cranks upgrade was designed and tested in USA.

Anyhow hopefully it's all good now as the engine works well in the f truck.

This article from trucktrend.com seems to address the issue re design mods etc....from one of the Ford design engineers.

"During design, changes were made to common components that Ford shares with JLR's variants of the engine. "For example, we put many updates and tweaks important to the durability of the engine into the crankshaft line. JLR also received the benefit of those updates," Pumford told us. "Other parts of the Ford engine are entirely new, like the block, EGR system, and a different fuel system. Everything existing (in the older engine family) was modified for F-150."

Ford's center of small-engine excellence is in Essex, England, at the 44-acre, 1.9-million- square-foot Dagenham Engine Plant.

Should be good news for JLR too!

Pity JLR/Ford/PSA would not admit crankshaft issues for the poor buggers that suffered such pain...and has cost them dearly re reputation and sales.

hmm, i might have to buy oneThat is for the US. Don't know if we will see the the petrol units, But it might be good for us with the 3.0 powerstroke. I'm thinking we will see them as the next ranger is also an amarok and I doubt vw will want to drop the v6 diesel.

Sounds like a mate of mine, he's down there doing reconnaissance for Targa Tasmania. He has the Titan for towing his "boat" (Nissan R33 GT-R)

Yes and the "gas" or petrol engine for the D3 is the Ford_Cologne_V6_engine, same as used in the Ford Explorer "
2005–2009 Land Rover LR3 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_Rover_Discovery)
The Land Rover version of the cast iron engine block has different motor mount castings/machined surfaces for the motor mounts and the left mount engine knock sensor, plus the engine girdle (upper oil pan) has a threaded hole drilled and tapped for an engine oil temperature sensor." from Ford Cologne V6 engine - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Cologne_V6_engine)

Lady we know at pony club just bought a Ranger new..had the choice of the 2l bi turbo or last of the 3.2l 5 cyl 6 speed (argh) models.

She agonised about the choice but in the end the salesman said for the long term ie beyond the 5 yr warranty the 5cyl was the better bet for towing durability.

He told her the 2l bi turbo was proving unpopular with new car buyers and as a result Ford would be soon releasing a v6 turbo diesel model ...guessing the Lion engine...AND a petrol engine from the Mustang.

Friend did not know which petrol engine that would be tho.

Anyone know?

I thought all new model rangers had the 8sp box. Daughter is trying to convince me to buy her 6sp so she can upgrade to the 8sp new model.

Bi turbo is 10 speed...the old model 5 cyl is 6.

I also thought her car would be 8 spped..but it said 6 on the side. I advised fitting a cooler as she hauls some big arsed horses!

She said the bi turbo 10 speed drove real nice but figured there's no replacement for displacement so shelled out 57k for the old model.

Looking at the Ranger I think our much cheaper D4 250kw 8 speed is waaay better value....and it tows like a dream☺

At least she got a full warranty tho which could come in handy given the 6 speed reputation for running hot and having valve body issues if over cooked.

Still would like to know what petrol option Ford is looking at.

Yeah...don't know..and that was discounted heavily she said.

Of interest they offered 12k for her 500k 80 series diesel..non turbo..on the spot. Wisely she declined.
