Any Employees of a State or Territory's Department of Corrections Here?

Hello All,

Does anyone here work for a Department of Corrective Services?

There seem to be a number of research and evaluation roles being advertised for different states and territories in Australia, within the area of corrective services. Lots of words such as "transformational journey to become a future-focused, innovative..." are being bandied around.

How much of this is a legitimate desire to change? Or is it the same stuff inside and they want to put a new wrapper on top? Just going through the motions to keep the public and pollies happy.

I am a researcher... I am currently an unemployed one...there is a quite a lot of stuff to sort out to put an application in. Just wondering would it be a worthwhile effort or something to steer well clear of?

We work as contractors in all the correctional centres in SE Qld.And the youth centre.HAve done for 30 yrs.

Some of the staff stick around for years,but they are the very small minority.Most centres have huge staff turn overs,particularly the youth centre.Admin staff do seem to stay longer than officers,possibly because they are not involved with inmates all day,every day.

Many can't put up with the go softly way things are done.

Others find the places depressing.

Quite a few are retired police or security guards that are just waiting around to fully retire,therefore couldn't give a rats about anything.

Cant wait to get out of the place and live on the Govt super.

The Govt centres have much better staff conditions than the privately run places.Although there will be no privately run places in Qld come July this year.

Difficult to advise on the job you are after as we are contractors.
