Hello folks, Has anyone fitted a double din head unit into their disco 2? I am saving up for a Pioneer one that is 6.2 inch. I have tried googling and looking through here but have not found too much. Can you get those dash kits for Discovery 2s?
If so, please share the good, bad and ugly as will be tackling this myself when I have saved enough over the next few weeks :) (currently have a Pioneer Single din unit in it)

I concur and fitted one like this to my D2.
Alternatively you can modify your surround (trim/re-fibreglass) and then fit a proper double DIN, but personally I would not bother, but stick with the above concept.
If you were interested in this latter option, I have a double DIN tutorial with pics done by an aulro member a few years ago that I saved and could send.

Nice! Any dramas hooking up the steering wheel controls?
Cheers

Used a universal steering wheel control adaptor, worked out fine.
The factory Harman Kardon amp and speakers retained as well.
Couldn't find any plug & play harness' though, so was a case of cut & solder the ISO plugs to the factory wiring.

I would love one of those floating ones but they are way out of my budget [emoji24] (disability income is pittance [emoji23]) I can just save for a heap longer though

I second that :arms: Alpo Halo 9. Best thing I had done prior to coming to Brisbane. Look threw eBay you can get them substantially cheaper than what the retailers are selling them for 😉

Thanks Cambo
My D2a had the mid line audio so it didn’t use the extra plugs for the high end system and the factory loom had straight ISO connectors. Luckily I was able to find a head unit iso adaptor which had the SWC wire so it was plug and play.
I’m tempted to upgrade though and then I can put the kenwood into the Jag.

I am selling some of my model cars to be able to then afford a floating one (Pioneer because they have never let me down)
I love how the double din looks if Google them in D2s, but reality is I will probably struggle trying to modify my dash to fit one myself.

A D1 dash piece is the same so if you can find a cheapie you can do a cut n shut to fit a DD unit.

Thankyou :) I have a whole wreck of a disco 2 here, could try with its dash piece. I am a little worried about moving the heater down to to fit DD, and then losing the cup holders. ( wish the ones here had the cup holders that the american discos seem to get!)

Our American friends must have different drink sizes to us,, I find them pretty useless..
and the one in the dash changes the aircon settings...

The centre console ones are better than nothing. I personally find them very useful especially after driving around without my centre console installed for a number of months.
still available and in my opinion worth every cent.

shop around on google and you should be able to get all the colours, black, smoke stone and beige.
the dash mounted ones on the other hand :bat:. I would really like to see someone 3D print up a row of the square switch holders to replace it with. They should almost be a perfect replacement height and fit in quite well. [biggrin]
cheers, Chris

Hi Guys
I did this! I looked at the other conversion of moving the air con controls down but then you loose the drink tray, and I really need one for my coffee! [bigsmile1]

Love it!!! I actually ordered a pioneer floating screen one today [emoji41] decided on one of those instead of moving and modifying things. Looking forward to it getting here then putting it in. (Ebay for the win saving lots so made sense to go this way)

Has anyone got any advice in fitting these yourself? I haven't fitted one myself before (electrics are absolutely not my strong point) It already has a pioneer head unit in it, but I have the addition of a reversing camera and mic to also wire up too. Super excited, have not had a new head unit in forever (the one in it was actually my fellow landrover friends who passed away, so put it in mine after her death. It will now go into my Impala which is named after her)
