Tamiflu injection been with your Doctors for a few years now. The main issue with Tamiflu it as we tend to tough it out for a few days before we see our Doctors whose test may take 24 hours the flu is 3-5 days in most of the time. The other PITA is the flu test is a rather uncomfortable swab up your nose. The XOFLUZA pill still needs a script and scripts cannot be given unless flu is confirmed.
Indication
XOFLUZA is a prescription medicine used to treat the flu (influenza) in people 12 years of age and older who have had flu symptoms for no more than 48 hours.

If you have a bad case of the flu, I don't think an uncomfortable test would worry you.
"(Xofluza) works very well and very quickly, and a single dose is usually what's required, as opposed to five days' treatment the old way," Professor Robert Booy of the University of Sydney said. This drug also works slightly differently in that it blocks the ability of the influenza virus to make copies of itself within an infected cell.

I'm not a doctor, and even with these drugs, the vaccination is the best method of fighting the flu. However the drug has been approved in Japan and the USA, after trials.

Baloxavir marboxil, sold under the brand name Xofluza, is an antiviral medication for treatment of influenza A and influenza B flu. It was approved for medical use in Japan and in the United States in 2018, and is taken as a single dose by mouth
Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (https://www.bing.com/search?q=Ministry%20of%20Health%2C%20Labour%20and% 20Welfare%20wikipedia&form=WIKIRE) (JMHLW) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (https://www.bing.com/search?q=Food%20and%20Drug%20Administration%20wiki pedia&form=WIKIRE) (FDA) approved baloxavir marboxil based on evidence of its benefits and side effects from two clinical trials in adult and pediatric patients with uncomplicated influenza (Trial 1, 1518T0821 and Trial 2, NCT02954354 ), involving 1119 patients. Both trials included clincal sites and patients in Japan, with Trial 2 adding clinical locations in the United States.
As of September 2018, in the only report of a Phase III randomized, controlled trial, baloxavir reduced the duration of influenza symptoms of otherwise healthy outpatients by about one day compared to a placebo treatment group, and comparable to what was seen for a oseltamivir (https://www.bing.com/search?q=Oseltamivir%20wikipedia&form=WIKIRE) treatment group. On the first day after baloxavir was started in its treatment group of patients, viral loads (https://www.bing.com/search?q=Viral%20load%20wikipedia&form=WIKIRE) decreased more than in patients in either the oseltamivir or placebo groups; however, after five days, the effect on viral load of the single dose of baloxavir was indistinguishable from the effect observed following the complete, 5-day regimen of oseltamivir in its treatment group.
Baloxavir marboxil was approved for sale in Japan in February 2018. On 24 October 2018, the FDA approved it for the treatment of acute uncomplicated influenza in people 12 years of age and older who have been symptomatic for no more than 48 hours. The FDA application of baloxavir marboxil was granted priority review (https://www.bing.com/search?q=Priority%20review%20wikipedia&form=WIKIRE) in the United States, and approval of Xofluza was granted to Shionogi (https://www.bing.com/search?q=Shionogi%20wikipedia&form=WIKIRE) & Co., Ltd. in October 2019. Specifically, the FDA approved the use of baloxavir marboxil for people at high risk of developing influenza-related complications.

Yeah, I'm not up on what's what with medicines & anti viral drugs, but was slightly excited about this new one. Guess we'll have to wait for the clinical trials to finish. I have to admit, this coronavirus has me worried. Any good news is good news, if you know what I mean.

Came across this recently, finding uses for older, cheap drugs.
On another forum, they speak of a 'shortage' and difficulty in filling prescriptions - for the folk who need it for lupus or rheumatism - or even malaria.
Apparantly it can be used to ward off a possible COV infection after exposure, though it can produce some challenging side-effects.
About $18 at a large chemist chain.
Old malaria drug hydroxychloroquine may help cure coronavirus: study (https://nypost.com/2020/03/19/old-malaria-drug-hydroxychloroquine-may-help-cure-coronavirus-study/)
Sadly, there is no cure for the FEAR being spread around, and when you think about it, this plague is a Capitalist's delight.- Takes out the older, high(er) national medical - cost patients, thus reducing government (age) Pension co$ts, freeing up their money for the younger & less wise beneficiaris to spend... and invest.
As always, whenever you feel the need for (running around in circles) speed, ask the question:-
"[B]Who Profits?"
(Almost) Tongue in cheek.

Pickles, no one knows how long a vaccine is away. Every one is aware of what the rules are. I suggest those breaking the rules are not on this forum. You may have to take your crusade elsewhere.

It was never touted to be any thing to do with COVID-19. Costing in Aus. hasn't been published yet. It wont be ready until next year here apparently. The consequences of getting the flu, and COVID, are not good. So, if this pill knocks the flu on the head quickly, as they say it does, it's a good thing.

Yes this treatment for flu should not be confused with a treatment for Covid.
You raise an interesting point about getting the flu and covid at the same time.
There are some in the medical fraternity that believe that it is almost 100% unlikely to get something else when your body is already under attack from something like the flu or a cold. This is because the immune system is already hyper active and goes on the attack to attack anything it thinks is a threat and may indeed attack your own cells.
For example, the logic goes that if you had a cold you are unlikely to also get the flu at the same time as your heightened immune system (because of the cold) will kill any flu bugs before they can take hold and (in my view a long bow to draw), some consider the heightened immune system may kill some cancers if they form at the same time.
So if this theory is correct, it may not be possible to have flu and covid at the same time, but I suspect it is too early to know.

I'd take the pill any time, over the daily double.
