Just a heads up that, as of the 28th February, there is a 24 hour number plate camera at the beach access. All vehicles using the access will be checked to see if they are covered by a beach permit and if not, a $200 fine will be issued.
Not that any members on this forum would flaunt the law!
24hr number plate surveillance cameras are now in use at Bribie Island Recreation Area (Department of Environment and Science) (https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/park-alerts/17689.html)

What the hell is this "Beach Permit" BS you speak of?
Some local councils will stoop down to anything to raise revenue and these CCTV cameras to check that the locals have paid their "Vigorish" just to enter the beach are just another revenue raiser.

Permits have been around forever in Queensland.....
I support the idea of permits otherwise the already busy beaches would be even more busier.
Keep in mind Bribie is pretty much Brisbane.
Camera won’t bother me as I comply.
Either way the freebies are pretty keen to close the beach to 4WD’s due to the disruption of turtles nesting.
The other month I was up their teaching my daughter and her girlfriend beach driving I stopped counting the number of 4WD @ 400.

The permits also (theoretically) fund the clean up and works around the area.
I have no issue with a small fee for this access.

Still a good place to watch the sun come up. But like most places now, don't even think about it during holidays. I wouldn't go to Fraser now, too busy, there are better places. But like many QLDer's, I won't advertise them.

Permits for camping also keep a record of who camped where, when. Good for grubs whose camp hygiene in non existent, a La toilet paper and human excrement, which we confronted once. Had no qualms about tracking down the Ranger and pointing this out to him.

Its a shame it won't stop the ones that shouldn't be there. They just take their plates off, cover them up, or whatever.
I also agree i don't mind paying a fee, hopefully it also reduces the number of people around as well.
And reduces the people that don't do the right thing.
As for Fraser island, yes, the place IMHO,is now ruined.
I spent quite a few years there late 60's and early seventies,so know what it used to be like.
I was last there in '99,and there were 60 vehicles waiting for the barge.
No intention of returning.
As others have said there are much better and quieter places to go,just as nice.[thumbsupbig]

Went to fraser 18 months or so ago, sure it’s changed but that’s going to keep happening no matter where we go.
It was my wife’s first trip and she loved the place.
There ain’t any other place in qld that really compares with Fraser
We do prefer Moreton out of the big three (fraser, North straddle and Moreton)
Our new favorites are Curtis and Facing Island.

Have a read of this by a local bloke from Dayboro who, sadly, passed away last year. It's about his cattle lease on Curtis.
Rhylle wrote a few good books in his time.
You're welcome to borrow it and others, if needs be.

Fraser for the tourists, Straddie for the locals. I like Winn's " bury me vertical" and rough diamonds and real gems", I didn't know he had passed.

Last visited Fraser in 1986. Don't think I'd like the changes much..
As for permits, while I don't like them much, they're better than locked gates, something we see more and more.

Bob, his passing is more or less explained in his book 'A Kick To The Head', which your welcome to borrow.

There are a lot of people that just drive on the beach without any thought of obtaining a permit, at Bribie and up Double Island. So hopefully this will be a deterrent. I believe the other way in is past the Ranger station so they won't go that way and it is a bit of a drive to get to the beach. I'm ok with permits and if you are going to have them they need to be enforced or people just won't bother.

I'll take you up on that, one day. We could do a temporary swap, I have a large library of books. What subjects interest you?

It's fools like this that make permits and cameras necessary.

Yeah, true. Thankfully we've never struck people like that. Almost all have been families, or well behaved young ones whose worst behaviour is donuts on the sand. The bloke and his truck may never see the beach again. Just a thought, the middle road, does that have a camera, or is it only the beach entry on the Eastern side.? Sort of defeats the purpose , otherwise.

Well to quote Steve's original link.....
"From Friday 28 February 2020, all vehicles entering and exiting the Bribie Island Recreation Area will have their vehicle number plates recorded."
So I guess that could mean all entry and exit points. Would be an even better deterrent than just the beach side entrance.

Yeah but they are clsoing (or have closed) all the good roads on Starddie - particulary the mine road down to the keyholes. Now it involes a walk in from the beach.
Beach permit prices have escalated dramatically too in recent times and needing several permits if you vist several places is stupid. Ought to be one permit to cvover all beach driving. Or at least divide the state into two or three regions.
As it is if you wantewd ot drove from Noosa North Shore up to Rainbow beach, then on to Fraser Island yo0u;d need at least two permits.
Also the expense of the Bribie permits is painful if you're only likely to drive on the beach there a couple of times in a year.
And what's worst is that, as usual, it only effects people doing the right thing.
There are plenty of knob-ends out there who pay nothing and get away with it.
Several years ago i saw a beach permit that was clearly faked but from a distance it looked fine and would be unlikely to attract attention.

I believe the road to keyholes is open again?? Either way a walk is always good......and with the mine now closed (apart from rehab and de-construction) maybe more will get opened up.....hang on between the owners, and government I doubt it.
Never had an issue going to fraser via Cooloola with booking two permits. My bet is two permits will stay so the moneys are divided correctly on usage.

Yep. Tassie does this well ( OK, not beach driving ) by selling single permits if that's all you want or a one size fits all permit if you are moving around. IIRC the latter is like $60, can't remember how long it covers but fine for visitors like me. 'Course, Qld gets heaps more tourists, might as well gouge 'em.

Ok, Fees. Vehicle access , and camping. Qld.
Vehicle access permit (Department of Environment and Science) (https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/recreation-areas/vehicle_access_permit_fees.html#vehicle_access_per mit_fees) edit had this in the camping fee bit. $50 a week is ok with me for vehicle access, but there should be a smaller daily fee. I thought there used to be? Normally we go for a week camping. Not for a while though.
Camping fees. Qld.
