I’m looking at an early s2 swb with the early 2litre engine. Am I able to swap straight over to a later 2 1/4 engine?
Not too bothered about originality but don’t want to use a Holden engine...
Im assuming the worst with the 2 litre and don’t want the expense of rebuilding it

The 2 litre series 2 is one vehicle that should remain with its original engine. There were so few 2 litres that they are highly sought after and given their rarity are already a sought after classic or will soon be.
If you dont want to keep the 2 litre, then I would suggest you sell it to someone who can do it justice and buy a common 2.25 series 2 with the money you sold the 2 litre for.
Why cannot you build the 2 litre - parts are available of you look around.

The two engines use a different bell housing setup.
But as 101 says, there are now few 1958 S2s with the 2 litre engine left - I owned one in 1963-5, but it had been converted to the 2.25 by the original owner (SMHEA). Most would have been converted when the original engine became worn. They are definitely collectible, and the parts are available, although they may take a bit of digging to find - and some of them may benefit from sitting down when you are being told the price. On the other hand, some of the parts will probably be available from forum members, and at least they are likely to help you look.
