Hello All,

I would like to build a set of bows and make a removable canopy for my tandem trailer. I would like the canopy to be waterproof. What grade of canvas or other more modern tarpaulin material are truck tarps or curtain sides made of these days?

What name and grade of tarp material should I ask suppliers for?

Apart from the possible storage of parts, the canopy would also protect the trailer from weather as it is parked outside.

Kind regards
Lionel

Do you have access to an industrial sewing machine ? You might struggle on the average machine, and break a few needles.

Can't help with the canvas spec. I'd be speaking to a supplier and asking what they'd recommend. Make sure you get the correct thread at the same time, problem there is that it's often only supplied on large rolls.

Alternative is to find a small 'Mum & Dad' operation that will do the job for a reasonable price.

Hello Colin,

I sure do have an industrial sewing machine. A World War Two vintage Singer made in 1942. It has a broken cast iron frame like your sewing machine. It is actually held together by the previous owner cutting down a sheet of form ply and bolting the frame side to the ply.

Kind regards
