I live in Brisbane & we have Council elections coming up on the 28th March , just wandering if they will cancel . We have already applied for a postal vote due to my wife's ill health over the last 6 to 9 months . It is past the date now to apply but am wondering when they will decide to go ahead or not. Personally I think it should be cancelled. This is the 1st time we have ever done a postal vote & we have not received our voting forms as yet , if they leave it much longer there won't be enough time to post it back what with the speed of Aust Post.
What do others think.

Council elections statewide and the Bundamba by-election to be held in conjunction.
Early voting is available, going by the number of people lined up to vote early, in Ipswich yesterday, there'll only be half a dozen left to vote on polling day. That might be the safest time to vote.

I voted early today, me and one other person apart from the officials.

76 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Queensland, out of a population of 4.7 MILLION (2016 Census). There has been one alleged death in Qld, a 77 YO woman who may have had a pre-existing condition.
You must make your own decisions, but I'd go and vote. I'm trying to live a normal life, but selfish hoarders won't let me.
Of course, your wife's poor health would be a contributing worry, and you must take that into account. I'm sure the Electoral Commission will be advised to take this thing into consideration when dealing with infringements.

I go to Norman Park School for the sausage sizzle and coconut ice. You mean one can vote there as well?[bigwhistle]

I attended NPSS from 1962 to 1968. We had sausages, but no coconut rice...

Will be interesting to see if the figures quoted here skyrocket after the elections.
I'm not going to check because I couldn't give a rats arse but perhaps more interested parties may like to.

The 77 year old woman booked herself out of an aged home to go to Sydney. Had some issues, and she nearly died on the plane. Sad. Her daughter came back from overseas , and is suspected of passing the virus on to her. Terrible situation. Voting is still on, but they are talking about voting over the phone for those in quarantine. Not sure how that would work. The Attorney General said alternative measures were being put in place for those unable to cast their ballot by post or at the ballot box. But the article doesn't say what. No doubt you will get an annoying phone call from one side or another chasing your vote, perhaps they may be able to tell you, or ring the incumbent, tell them you'll be voting for them, they might send a car.[bighmmm]

I emailed the ECQ to say we were in Tasmania and could we vote somewhere? No response so far.

Normally available at AEC offices - presumably only Hobart for TAS.

OK, we won't be in Hobart before the 28th. No worries, I don't know any of the local candidates anyway.

Just had a quick scan of Qld EC documents on their website. Looks like no outside Qld voting places for the local Gov't elections (although should be for the concurrent state by-elections), just postal voting which has closed.

DM, several years ago, I was in W.A. (Cape Leveque, from memory) when the Qld local councils' elections were held. I received a letter a few months letter stating that I didn't vote and was there a reason.
I phoned the number provided on the letter and explained my situation to the affable young bloke who answered. He replied 'No worries. Thanks for the call'. I never heard any more about it.
Things may have changed though, in the 'Scale of Naughtiness', for such a heinous crime.

It's okay, I'll just blame the Coronavirus and say Queensland was a cesspit of disease, so we stayed in safe Tasmazia. [emoji3]

If the elections don't go ahead how will we be able to decide WHICH bunch of corrupt bungling fools we put in charge?

You should write to The Times about it. Have your local MP, The Hon. Claude Jeremiah Greengrass, raise the matter in The Commons.

does it matter?
if we picked the councillors random off the street one morning the results would be the same...maybe better.

Appoint the Mafia to run local government. After all, they did a pretty good job in Sicily, Chicago, New York, Kansas City, New Orleans for many years. Just look how Las Vegas grew and prospered under their stewardship.

Pro'ly a better option and that is how democracy started IIRC, now it has turned into lifetime/career pollies.
