I was having a squizz under the bonnet of my 110 today and noticed that the numpties that fitted the Air Con have put thier stupid heat exchanger over the front of the intercooler.

Now I might not be the sharpest knife in the blok BUT, Der Fred, in summer thats going to cut the efficiency of the intercooler just when u need it most.

Any solutions?

Cheers, Stevo

I am not familar with the defenders, but can you lower the air con heat exchanger so that it sit lower than the intercooler

The condenser has to go somewhere - possibly better in front of the intercooler than the radiator, as it will only reduce power, not possibly cause overheating.

the condenser sits across both the radiator and I/C in a 'fender, but where else is it going to go ?? There really is a limit to space in that area.

I removed mine four years ago as it was totally choked with seeds, locusts, etc, and found I couldn't clean it adequateely and never obtained a new one (which are relatively cheap) but you may not wish to put up with the lack of cool cabin air in summer.......:p

Of course you could always rig up a water spray to cool the intercooler with, say a switch on the floor below the throttle pedal that kicked it in when you needed it the most.

I would think that the amount of heat that the A/C will put into the intercooler will have almost no effect on the way the vehicle runs. The drag of the compressor on the pulley will certainly have a greater influence.

who fitted the Air Co & where ? (i'll even go to tassie)
I'm about to buy a 130 fender (if I sell the 110 turbo isuzu in the for sale section, free plug :p )
and the 130 doesn't have any a/c :(
I have been looking but haven't yet found a kit
where where where, who makes the kit
thanks
Jase

PS yes a/c condensor is always in front radiator & intercooler
in theroy not good, but in practice makes little differance

but temperatures under 25*C don't count ;)

Mine is below the Intercooler. THe Intercooler is to thick for the AC exchanger ti fit in front unless I removed the grill. But then My gearbox cooler is also in front of the AC exchanger so makes it a lot of things for the air to get passed before the Radiator.

:(

Blimey, talk about gettin a floggin 4 being a Taswegian.

Jase AC is a genuine LR fitup I suspect, probably fitted by LR Australia. It works a treat, freezes ya willy of real good like. It'll be great for the 2 days per year that I get hot here in Tassie. I might need it ni the NT or QLD someday.

I still reckon its a damn stupid place to put the heat exchanger. I've had a chat to a mate who is a refrigeration mechanic and he reckons he can get me a modified one that will ift along side the intercooler so thats got that sorted.

Cheers, Stevo

Did'nt know they made reverse cycle air cons for vehicles, must be a Tassie thing
