Hi guys
im travelling north from Ceduna Sa towards coober pedy and it gives me two options on google maps
Sealed road via port Augusta
11hrs 4 minutes
1092km
Or
dirt road from wirulla via Kingoonya
9 hours 12 mins
666km
one is a lot more direct but no way of knowing the condition of the road, towing a 22.6 caravan with idepended suspension and off road height
qny insight would be great

It's been quite a few years since I've travelled the dirt road from Wirulla to Kingoonya so I can't offer any info re current conditions.
However, I'd suggest that with your 22.6 caravan in tow, your travelling time on the dirt would be somewhat more than that indicated by google. So probably not much different time wise from the PA route but quite a few less Kms.
Umm ..... just looked at google for the 290km dirt section and with an indicated time of just over 5hrs, equates to an average speed of 58kph compared to average of 101kph on the sealed section. So maybe my statement above is incorrect.
Better see what others say with more recent knowledge.

Last September I travelled south from Kingoonya out past Mt Ive rather than to Ceduna. The roads had just opened after 10-15mm of rain a couple of days before and apart from half a handful of puddles, the roads were wide fast gravel. I'd take the scenic route rather than the highway any day providing its open.
I understand that the short-cut is often taken by caravaners, not that I saw any.
