Shock Absorber Bushes Sizes 2A Shortie

Hello All,

What diameter bushings should I tell my shock absorber supplier?

I have taken the following measurements with my new digital vernier calliper. There is no doubt that the mounting points have worn

Front Shock Absorbers: Top !8.98 mm - Bottom 19.19 mm diameter
The top bolt that goes through the mounting is 11.08 mm diameter
Back Shock Absorbers: Top 19.28 mm - Bottom 17.12 mm diameter

What should I just round these measurements up to? How accurate are these measurements according to the manufacturer's specifications?

The bottom mounting bolt on the passenger side is really worn. Can you get replacement bolts or is it a case of buying new plates?

My 2A Shortie came with its two rear shock absorbers in the tray. All the front and the back shocks had no bushings So I cannot use any existing bushes to measure off. I took a front and rear shock absorber into the suspension place and they measured them. They then asked me "what sized diameter bushings?" According to the suspension place I have specify a size before they can order in the parts.

Hello from Sherwood.

I bought a new set of shockers for my 88” a few years back, but have opted to fit poly bushes. So, the bushes that came with the shockers are up for grabs if you want them.

For what it’s worth I also have the shockers that came off the truck - the rears are Old Man Emu. I think the fronts are Armstrong. You can have them too if you want them. There was no indication when I bought the truck that they were not still OK.

I'm surprised the suspension place can't track down correct bushes for a Land Rover, I've only ever purchased from LR suppliers so have never needed to know the size.

Also remember that you are dealing with something that wasn't made using metric measurements so for example the bolt you measured is 7/16".

You mention a worn bottom bolt. You have to either replace the plate or grind off the old bolt then cut the head off a suitable bolt & weld in place.

Sounds like Neil can help with bushes and some spare shock absorbers.

Not exactly sure where you're measuring plus without measuring something here it's difficult to comment.

All mine have been ordered from overseas but this may be difficult and extended delivery at the moment.

Rather than stuff about all over the place I would probably be looking to source replacement bottom plates off a wreck - must be a few about the place.

Ditto the top bolts that go through the chassis if the originals are sufficiently worn. Otherwise, reuse them.

If the actual metal attachment points on the chassis that the bolts for the upper mounts go through are also badly out of shape then that’s another issue I suppose. It must have had a tough life if the various bits that pass through the rubber bush eyes are really badly munted.

Just thought I’d reconfirm that the rubber bushes that I mentioned before have never been used.

The set of shockers that they came with is brand marked as Armstrong.

Amazingly the shocker bushes are the same size as a lower bush from 66 - 79 Holden cars.
You can pick up the bushes in Repco or similar very easily
From memory the bush is an A945 Mackay or similar.
