And stop humming that tune already , ok?
What i'm wondering is how many members here value their state automobile association? RAA, RACV, NRMA,RACQ ETC
I had a "freebee" from Ford while my 130 Range r was under warranty for 5 yrs, never had use for it, I or someone paid for it in the price of the car or in the servicing costs , for which I used a Walkinshaw Indy.
It runs out in a few weeks so they sent me a flyer extolling the virtues of being a member.
They state that they fight and campaign for fair fuel pricing....when?
They state that they fight and campaign for road upgrading and safety programming...when?
They certainly run a huge financial empire(it's massive) and I certainly see their road service vehicles parked under the shade of a tree.
Maybe I'm a cynic but for $99 I'd rather leave it in my bank, same goes for private health, dental, pet, insurances.

Hi,
I've been a member for over 50 years. Used them a few times as a roadside member. I upgrade to gold membership for mainland trips, but never had to avail myself of the option.
The main business seems to be up market accommodation with discounts for members.
Cheers

You only miss it when you need it.

I’m with the RACV because I own Land Rovers, no other reason.

Had it on the work vans for years, never used it ever,so took them off it.
But kept it on the LR's,and when the Deefer died 400Km from home, they were a great help, and paid for everything.
While i have LR's,i will keep it[bighmmm]
Its also good for discounts here and there but i always seem to forget to use the membership for the discounts

I have been a member of the NRMA for long enough, almost 60 years, to have a Life Membership.
I have only needed roadside assistance a few times. Once back in about 1970 for a flat battery in my FC Holden, once in about 2003 when I locked myself out of my SV21 Camry, and twice in the Defender, when the water pump bearing collapsed and again when the stud holding the fan belt tensioner broke while in Tasmania.
That might not look as if I have had value for money, but I have had peace of mind.

They have helped me a few times over the years, when I was a young bloke and my ute had done so many km the timing chain slipped a couple of teeth they stored it securely until I could pick it up. They also flat trayed the D3 to my driveway when it terminally expired.
I've been a member for a lot of years and its a handy safety net to have, although the base coverage does not cover a vehicle that weighs what a 4wd does.

I have NRMA Premium cover.
An old mate was the local NRMA agent and sold it to me extolling the virtues even though I never thought I'd need it, but it was a godsend when the then new to me D2 pooped itself deep in the Flinders.
They were great, couldn't help enough.
I keep renewing it each year, it's cheap insurance.

RACV Total Care here. Wouldn't be without it. They've towed my D2 four times, got me a cab on two of those, towed my Ford once, cab that time too. Recently the RAA came out to help my son in Adelaide as I called ( I was with him ) when his Patrol did a hose. Then later that trip the RACV came and towed the Patrol ( cracked head ) from somewhere this side of Port Campbell to Lara, some 160 ks, with a trailer and a dog, no charge ( sure, that was a little bit to do with the old local bugger driving the TT, but ). That tow alone more than covered the ten years of membership. I'll never let it go.

Premium roadside assistance has been great value for me. The last occasion was a trans cooler pipe failure at the end of the 1st day of a big road trip with the camper. I was given 3 tows. Firstly side of the road outside Roma to caravan PK for the camper, and car to mechanic. Second, mechanic to JLR Toowoomba for repair (repair quote $20k[emoji15]) and van to caravan park. After quote decided to tow the lot Hm and deal with it later. So final tow was both back to Brisbane.
All tows fully covered.
And that was my 3rd big tow incident while a long way from Hm. All covered.

I'll have to look into that. RACV TC officially only covers 100km tows, unless the car is OTR for more than 3 days or something. (That's what the towie used for Chris' Patrol, as it had water in the cylinder and wouldn't turn over. HG or head for sure. { It was, I fixed it. Cracked head }) Is RACQ Premium the same, I wonder.

Entry level cover is 100km tow limit I think.

With RACV Total Care you can register the wife's car against your membership number.
You personally are covered in any car you drive, adding the wife's car means she's covered as well. But....when you change her car remember to change the rego logged with them ! Wife had a flat, phoned them and the new car hadn't been registered with them. Fortunately it was no problem updating the details. As it happened they were going to take too long to arrive so she changed the wheel herself.
Used it once with the Territory when the starter motor died (tilt trayed home), and with another Territory when the battery failed but otherwise like any insurance it's peace of mind. So far haven't had to call them out for any of the Land Rovers (fingers crossed).
I did read that they had 'watered down' the cover in recent years but haven't checked the small print recently.
Just did....towing 100km with Total Care, 20km with Roadside Care !!

I did that as well. I don't think it needs to be a spouse, but I'm not sure. I think it needs to be a CAR, one that someone else drives. But don't quote me.
The " any car you drive" doesn't cover B-Doubles though [bigrolf] Not that I blame them....

Been driving for 53 years, been a member for 53 years.
Several vehicles in that time. SWMBO member in a package deal.
Callouts for a stone behind a brake disc and no suitable gear, 2 dead batteries, dead alternator, fan belt, keys in the car, broken axle, broken con-rod/piston, broken oil pump (floated vehicle/towed van for 60km and ten km, hired a replacement vehicle until repaired and helped with accomm costs). All in my home state.
Nothing out of state.
But great peace of mind.
Like health insurance - you only need them a couple of times plus the knowledge that even at 2:00a.m. you can get a friendly face to come out to help you.............
Go for it.

I’ve been a base member of RACQ for 50+ yrs. I have only tried to use LR assist once. A problem with the boat trailer - not covered.
That prompted an upgrade to RACQ Platinum membership which covers the boat trailer as well. Never bother with LR assist again.

I am a motor mechanic by trade but still have RACQ . Just one call out a year for a battery problem , need a tow & you have got your money back. As your vehicle gets older & comes out of warranty there is more chance of needing them . It is also a safe guard for you partner.

We have been with RACQ for yonks. In 2005 I upgraded to their top level, as I did a 14 week outback Qld, NT, Kimberley, Pilbara, Gunbarrel, Simmo trek. I have remained on the high level as it is the persons who are covered really. It doesn't matter what or whose vehicle I am driving if something goes awry. I used it a few years ago with my nephews 'tilly needing a hand. That's the 1st time I met JerryD, from memory. He wasn't part of the RACQ service so, don't panic. He was just being an helpful bloke.

NRMA Premium Care here. A few years ago my D1 300tdi water pump collapsed at Cocklebiddy. Trayed to Norseman and gave me accomodation for the night. No questions asked. About two years ago my VE Commodore did the motor south of Grafton (en route to Gold Coast) supplied hire care for free and when I got back to Grafton, took me and the Commodore home to Bathurst. Again, no questions asked. Couldn't ask for better! Well worth the money.

Thing is, it doesn't matter what your skillset is if you don't have the part or the tools, or if the breakdown is severe enough to be a showstopper, like when my auto failed.
There's a bloke on YT who broke the axle housing on his LC on the Tanami, hours and hours out of Alice. RACQ member. Got towed back to Alice. Would have cost $$$thousands.
