Aircraft, they are aircraft. A plane is something that shaves wood.
Worked with Cranes over the summers, they are amazing machines. They are however a bit over rated with the press and are used as a PR tool by State and Federal governments.
They always quote a 9000 litre load, that is a good day with the F model. On a summers day with the E models we have based in Australia now their max load is 6000 litres. Throw in a 42 C day and and a good fuel load they max out at 4000 litres. That is still a good load and if the source of water is close they can shift some even with that load. They are like all the other aerial fire resources (light, medium and heavy choppers, SEATs, LATs and VLATs) if used to their strengths they can all work well. If not they waste money at a prodigious rate.
