CV regulations and our cars.

With the “house arrest” policy for the majority of the population now in full force it leads me to wonder about the various cars/fourbys now restricted to infrequent short runs contrary to their pre CV every day use as workers transport/mums shopping trolley/school runs/social activities/weekend drives etc.

What happens to car batteries which don't get back to anywhere near full charge and begin to fail? Will the likes of RACV be over run?

Diesel engines are common but what happens when the DPF light comes on in those cars without a manual 'burn' button to clear the DPF? Will these circumstances stand the test of reasonable/essential travel needed to clear the DPF and keep the car operational?

What happens when those cars still under warranty need a service so as to keep their warranty valid? For many rural folk this can mean a return trip of 100's of kms. Will these owners be excused from CV compliance rules.

I thought automotive servicing was still operating. My local dealer is doing pickup, drop off servicing.

Dealers, etc are still trading. Had the Hilux serviced last week and a new DPF fitted finally. They are quiet so easy to get a booking.

No one is getting pulled up and asked where they are going and nothing stopping anyone from taking their car for a drive if they want as long as it’s not stopping anywhere that isn’t needed.

Put the van in for a service the other Saturday at the dealer.The service guys all had black gloves on,and face masks.

I noticed the van had a plastic glad wrap type of cover on the steering wheel when i got it back,and the usual light duty disposable seat cover.

I guess it is under the discretion of each dealer or service center. My mother asked me to bring her Civic to the service center last Friday so I immediately finished installing the wiring and atv implements (https://4wheelonline.com/atv/ATV-Farming.103572) on the quad. They are closed and had a note of re-opening until further notice.

If it was a Honda dealer it could be for different reasons as Honda is axing most of their dealerships at the moment.

The Trytoo went in for is first (15,000km) service today, they were absolutely flat out.

It'll need the gearbox pulled, a bearing is noisy (I'd mentioned the baulk going into 4th and the slight noise in 5th) and the service rep did say they may be forced into hibernation at some point which surprised me.

At my local garage when you walk in to drop the car off they had a table just in side the door. From door to counter is about 4 metres. On the table was a pump action type bottle of sanitizer and some wipes. Note to say remove key from key ring and use sanitizer on key then wipe. Hold key by wipe and set forward to place on sheet of paper on service counter. Step back and counter jockey will book in service

Use a bloody battery charger!
Run your regen cycle if it needs it. only takes 10 minutes. And less driving = less cycles required.

Hardly house arrest - **** me some people would think they have been incarcerated for 10 years - its a few months tops.

What a selfish, self centered, ridiculous society this has become.

Luckily most of us own a 4WD, so even a drive around the block a few times, in Low Range should get the rev's up enough to charge the battery.[bigwhistle]
