Hi experts

I recently had some surging with my tacho and wrote about it on here and on advice I took it to Suttons in Alice Springs for diagnosis.

I was told the problem is either a new gearbox is needed (apparently most don't replace the TC without the gearbox now) for $9K or perhaps a new throttle body for $1100 as it apparently failed its test too.

Not knowing which one it was I asked them to add two bottles of Dr Tranny to the gearbox because if that fixes the issue it's unlikely to be the throttle body so by process of elimination it confirms the TC. Along with this they cleaned up two connectors to the gearbox which were looking dirty.

I left Alice a day or two later and drove 600km with a 3.2t van on the back in 37C heat with no further issues, no surging or anything - dr Tranny was my hero.

until.

A few days later (all long drives in hot weather) I received realised the engine speed didn't match the gear/road speed - this continued for a few minutes before the following error (never had this prior)

GEArbox Fault: p0741 'Torque converter clutch solenoid - circuit performance or stuck off'

The car continued to drive just fine, albeit it felt like i was driving in 4th even though I had manually selected 6th.
See attached images which may help.

-Is this the same problem in a different form?
-Is it possible the connectors which were fiddled with are not seated correctly? (nothing comments about the circuit performance)
-Is this perhaps due to the heat? noted it didnt happen in 37C but happened in 30C, however it is a lot more humid up here
-Does anyone have any recommendations for transmission in Darwin? we are here for a month now so plenty of time to fix this once and for all

thanks, Luke

This is my story here

P0741 became quite a friend on our trip to the Pilbara last July...

I'm PM my cost for the replacement.
