I was really sad to hear this.

Not only a man that was an exceptional in his time, especially with his driving overlap with Fangio, but he was also exceptional in the sense that he survived as a driver during that era when probably most didn't.

An extremely talented driver in categories from F1 to rallying and a Jaguar driver to boot, could it get any better?
Only Nigel Mansell won more races, but he had to enter more to do so.
Sir Sterling Moss, the greatest driver to never win a F1 championship.
RIP, you ve earnt it.

[bigsad] Sir Stirling was the HSCC's patron-in-chief for many years and only stood down when his health deteriorated.
This is the foreword that he kindly wrote for the HSCC's 50th anniversary book in 2016:
"I was very pleased to be asked to write the foreword for this book telling the story of 50 years of the Historic Sports Car Club.
Without the organising clubs we would have no motor racing. Some of the last races of my career were at events organised by the HSCC and, like so many racers, I appreciate the work of all the people involved behind the scenes of the sport we all love.
"Having been patron-in-chief of the HSCC for more than a decade, I hope that everyone has enjoyed the 50th anniversary season.
"Here’s hoping the club is around for another 50 years, delivering pure historic racing for its members!"

Moss raced in sports cars , touring cars, and the top levels of single seaters, competing for manufacturers including Mercedes- Benz, Maserati and Vanwall in formula 1 races. Retired after a crash that sent him into a coma in 1962, Moss won 16 races, claimed 16 pole positions and 24 Podium positions. He could be fearless to the point of recklessness on the track, a true Champion.

R.I.P. Stirling.
You were an absolute "Legend" in every sense of the word, and also a man of honor & a gentleman.

Gee Pickles, couldn't you find a picture of Sterling in a Jag?
Really, a chook's foot! [bigsad] [wink11]
(Don't mention the war [bigwhistle])
