Evening all,

I’m just trying to troubleshoot an issue that appeared on Sunday whilst driving from Blackall back to Brisbane. Vehicle is a 2004 TD5 (EU3). Larger intercooler, egr & cat removed, TD5Inside Stage 2 remap

Both at constant speed and under load/acceleration (in all gears) I am experiencing an intermittent hesitation/loss of power, resulting in a minor jolt when the driveline catches up and power is restored. This is a split-second duration issue, which is manageable/not overly noticeable on flat road scenarios but more concerning whilst going up hill as the jolt is a bit more violent.

I initially thought it might have had a bad batch of fuel but have eliminated this possibility. Have checked the intake side of the equation and can’t identify any obvious issues. I don’t think it would be a fuel pump issue? Nanocom shows no faults.

The car is feeling underpowered more generally and the fuel consumption was higher than normal on my return trip, in the region of 10 to 15% by my calcs.

The clutch pedal feels different to normal, requiring quite a bit more pressure than usual throughout the range, With a very short take up length. It used to feel a lot more progressive.

Could this be a clutch issue? Temporarily engaging whilst I’m driving? I covered some very rough/rocky country whilst on a property and thought this could have upset something.

I’ll open the floor to those more knowledgeable than I.....

Thanks in advance.

Dave

I'd say your clutch is worn and its slipping under load hence the power loss and different feel to it. Only other thing I'd check would be the wastegate but that usually a more subtle hesistation at higher revs only.

Using the nanocom, what are your MAF values?
Also worth a shot is to try a can of MAF cleaner on it(on the maf, not the nanocom! [biggrin])
In fact, try give as many sensors a clean.

If you state the MAF values you're getting, knowledgeable folks here will tell 'ya what's good/bad(I can't remember).

'nother thing to get readings for could be the TPS(throttle position sensor) too.

And what turbo pressure values you getting.

Just had a very similar thing happen.
Check the fuel pump relay for loose connection.
