Heater control Valve - Puma

Been a while since my last post!

Just started working on the 110 again.

My heater control valve is starting to fail. Too stuborn to pay LR for a poorly manufactured item, I've ordered one of these in protest.

For Fiat Ducato PEUGEOT BOXER CITROEN JUMPER 1994 OE: 77363342, 6448.P6 COOLANT CONTROL VALVE EXCHANGER REPLACEMENT|peugeot jumper|ducato boxer jumperjumper citroen - AliExpress (https://www.aliexpress.com/i/32846242022.html)

It appears to be complete apart from a missing cable holder which I'll just take off from the other one.

Will keep those of you who are interested update when it lands in AU.

Bought two of those. One lasted only a few weeks before starting to leak around the "push in" edge. So dremmelled out the seam on the other one and filled with araldite. Over the past 10 months or so the araldite has pinked up and there is a crust. However, no leak/drip per se. No "WET". No pink/white trail.

The first replacement that started to leak, dremmelled out it's seam a bit more aggressively than the aradited item and after thorough cleaning/degreasing filled with "Q Bond" glass powder and Loktite 406 super glue. This still hasn't been on vehicle, That's a YET!

Bought one. Works fine. Sometimes they get crud inside and don't close properly, so need cleaning. Also, you may need to oil the slide on the heater tap so it moves easily. The plastic has hot water in it constantly so may warp over time.

If the aircon still isn't cold enough it is possible to fit a tap in the heater line to prevent hot water from the radiator from flowing through the heater tap. I had an aircon workshop fit a Pirtek tap.

Yep, I found the same. Replacement works fine. I went a step further and had a tap fitted in the coolant line so in hot weather I can turn the tap and stop the hot coolant reaching the heater valve. The air con works better, particularly since it was regassed. All good now. In winter I just turn the tap back on and the heater works.

Okay, I'm away from home and the Defender is in British Off Road for a service, so it may be a couple of days. Meanwhile a verbal description.

There is a fat hose at the top on the passenger side running coolant from the radiator to the heater tap. A Pirtek tap, brass I think, with a red top has been fitted in that hose before the heater tap. It just turns. Brass was chosen because plastic can warp when regularly exposed to hot coolant. It is important to make sure the hose seals on the tap fittings or coolant can leak.

The plastic heater tap can warp and not fully close, allowing some hot coolant through. Debris can get stuck inside and stop it fully closing. Another problem can be the wire which pulls the heater closed can jam. I make a point of oiling mine and pulling it by hand to make sure it is sliding freely.

Also, the air-conditioning workshop said there is a filter in the aircon which needs replacing when regassing to get the best results, but is often overlooked. I haven't seen it, but that's what they said.

‘I expect that it’ll be better when I do the swap to the new module but your cut off tap is an extra insurance and I like the idea of more efficient air con ( even if I am in Tassie!).

Good luck with it.
I've only just turned it on for what passes as winter in Qld. Most of the year it is off as more heat is not needed. In summer blocking the hot coolant definitely makes the aircon cooler.

CheersI've bought from this seller a few times. Each valve lasted about a year before leaking. Not bad comparing to the short-lived britpart item for which I paid AUD150.
